The pipe house is definitely a unique place to stay and if the description would have been more accurate and our check-in went smoother I think i would have had better things to say. To start, the drive there is about 20 minutes on a dirt road full of pot holes which wasn’t stated in the description. When we checked in Felipe let us know he would not be there so we had to scan a QR code on the counter for all the information we needed and he gave us the WiFi and said if we have any questions to call him. The only problem was the WiFi wasn’t working so we couldn’t scan the QR code, call him or do anything at all since we were international travelers relying on WiFi. Then, we attempted to walk to tamarindo to get some food and go to a grocery store. We walked on the beach since the description says it’s a “10 minute walk to tamarindo” only to find out it’s a 10 minute walk to an estuary that you have to pay a boat driver $2 a person to cross and then walk even further. The catch is, they stop the boat service at 4pm so you have to be careful not to get stranded there. We decided to drive to tamarindo instead which is a 40 minute drive on mostly dirt roads (Also not listed in the description). The actual hostel was okay, again if we knew what to expect it would have been better. The room itself is very very small and if youre claustrophobic like me I highly don’t recommend staying here. The bed slopes to the center also. The bathrooms are not air conditioned so if you want A/C you have to be in the pipe. There’s also very big insects in the bathrooms and all around. I saw the biggest spider I’ve ever seen while in the bathroom changing. Felipe is also pretty unresponsive, I had asked a few weeks before we got there about seeing sea turtles and he said he knew someone and i asked to book something and got no response. Then, the day of check in I asked him again about sea turtles and he didn’t answer until the next day when we had already left to get a new hotel. One positive thing about the place is avoiding crowds on the beach. Overall, I think this is more like glamping and if the description was a better representation of that and Felipe had been more responsive, I think our expectations would have been much lower and we might have had a...
Read moreThe Pipe House is a very unique experience. The rooms are really cozy, which I enjoy. You cannot stand up in them except for at the small section at the foot of the bed which some people found uncomfortable for a long stay and only lasted three days. We were there for a week and I think that was a comfortable amount of stay for me. They don't not hold much luggage so you either have to pack smartly (I used packing cubes which worked great) or pack lightly. There is really no room in the tube for your luggage if you have anything more than a carry on and there is nowhere to store your empty luggage which would have been nice. People have complained about the temperature in them with it either being too hot or too cold. It took me four days to get the temperature under control but I finally figured it out, if you set the air conditioner to 21 degrees auto and have an extra little blanket (I used the one I have for the plane) it is perfect. There are no opening windows which was a bit uncomfortable for my partner who needs air flow and if you leave the door open you get bit by bugs. The tube can also get messy quite easily if you don't stay organised. I was a bit disappointed that they did not change our bed sheet at all during the week we stayed as about half way through our stay they got quite sandy so we were constantly trying to brush them off. The doors can be noisy when closed so this can sometimes wake you in the night from other tubes. The owners dogs also bark in the night which woke me up from time to time. The staff are friendly and the own is lovely and there to help whenever needed. The breakfast was good. It is eggs either scrambled or fried with rice and beans and they switch sides between plantain or a type of sausage and a tortilla. The grounds are small but beautiful with two hammocks, a gym where all the equipment is made of wood and lots of different comfy seating. The owner even gives surfing lessons at an additional charge. You can also rent kayaks or surf boards. The beach is just a minute walk away and is gorgeous. So if you are in the area I would definitely recommend staying for...
Read moreThis place is very unique. It's not a full hostel, and it's not a full hotel, it's somewhere in between. There's only 9 pods here, queen sized beds, capsule like. This place is incredibly aesthetic. The pods look beautiful and are so unique to anything or anywhere I've stayed before. This place has an awesome gym with wooden plates and with only 9 beds here, this gym is always open and everytime I worked out I had it to myself.||||This place is directly on playa grande beach near Tamarindo. It's a 1 minute walk to the beach. The beach is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite beaches in Costa Rica. Sunsets here are amazing. The surf is absolutely perfect for beginners and intermediates, the waves are not too big and its not too hard to paddle out, the beach is completely sandy bottom. This beach almost feels like a private beach, there are not too many people here.||The downsides of this place is if you're a solo single traveler, there are a lot of couples here. Couples, the rooms will be very tight, so do not bring too much luggage. Bathrooms are shared here, that's no problem for me as I have stayed in many hostels before.||This place is located in Playa Grande. It is so peaceful and relaxing. But if you want to get to Tamarindo in the nighttime it is a 40 minute cab ride. If you want to get to Tamarindo in the daytime, you walk for 5 minutes down the beach and take a boat across the river for $1.50.||||There are not too many places closeby here for food, there are two restaurants that are a 5 minute walk, there's no breakfast and pipehouse. So if you do not have a car, it might be difficult for you to get around. Highly recommend renting a car or you may feel "stuck" in Playa Grande. Personally I loved being in Playa Grande. This is a place I would definitely...
