Please like and review. Got to LA Esquina de Buenos Aires toward 7sh without reservation. We did not expect the lineup. The hosts were moving fast and welcomed us and directed us toward the bar that was also packed and set our expectations to 30 minutes. I engaged with her and explained that we flew from Toronto to check this restaurant. She promised me she would take care of us. We waited without too much expectations, but within a short time, she approached us with 2 champains and requested that we follow her. (We were in shock since she gave us the best table in the house) Quickly an english and spanich menue follow and lovely bread and butter... The menue was clear and easy to read and understand. A few minutes then, MONSERRAT, our host, approached us, and she was courticious enough to engage with us about our experience in San Jose. Then we requested Sangria and Calamari, then as a main blue cheese steak with pearl potatoes and rice and vegetables and shrimps. The Sangria deink were large and tasty, loaded with fruits and grade 1 wine. The Calamari were fried to perfection and tasty. What amazed me is how they timed their plates' timing accurately. We never had a long wait after finishing a plate before we received the next. Every now and then, our host checked on us with the biggest smile and nice little talks. Our main plates looked beyond reel. My pearl potatoes truly looked like pearls and tasted amazing. The steak, which is the queen of the plate, was 2 medallions of 350 gm of tenderloin, cut like a butter, and melted in your mouse like chocolate. The texture and the taste could acore easily 10 over 5. The other plate: the bed of rice and shrimps was of equal value and taste. We were floored of the great value we received in this restaurant. Wait, this amazing experience is not finished yet. Now it's the turn of deserts. I usually pass on deserts, but how can I when they serve two kinds of flan and it is my guest birthday. So we ordered the white eggs flan.( highly recommend) it is fluffy and delicious. Sweet enough, but not over sweet. They already won my heart and this 5-star review after I ate the steak. Now they are going into the 10 stars territory. To finish this perfection night, they served two digestives on the house alongside the reasonable bill. We paid and thanked Monserrat for giving us an experience to remember. To finish we walked to our hotel which happened to be 100 m away from the restaurant under a beautiful starry night. I highly recommend...

The best restaurant experience we have ever had due to one fantastic waiter named Walter. The food, the wine and the restaurant’s ambiance were all really good but what made it exceptional was this restaurant’s waiter named Walter. Our night began by being referred to this restaurant by a neighboring establishment. Not familiar with downtown San Jose we walked by the restaurant’s closed door and asked two men sitting outside this restaurant if it was open. Two very polite men said it opens at 6. It was 5:30. Asked us to come back and if we wanted we could wait at a nearby ice cream place. I asked about where we could wait and have a glass of wine. This is when the service beyond I have ever seen started. Walter and this other nice man invited us in. Walter had us sit at the bar and cheerfully began a wine tasting experience. When the restaurant officially opened he showed us to our table where from start to finish was exceptional. We were invited back into the kitchen where they showed us the cooks preparing our steaks and dinner. Walter gave my husband a flower to present to me during dinner without my knowledge. Our meal was so delicious served at our table on a cast iron grill. We were on our honeymoon and had been touring some of Costa Rica’s beautiful sites for the past 7 days. How lucky on our last night in the country to have been introduced to this fabulous restaurant and experience. Kudos to whomever hired Walter. He is a jewel! All the great food in the world is nothing if you don’t have great service. We were fortunate enough to have had Walter as our waiter and not just give us dinner but an experience of a lifetime. We are looking forward to our next trip back. Thank you! -...

A Steak Lover’s Dream in Costa Rica – Perfectly Grilled Entraña!

If you’re in Costa Rica and craving a high-quality steak experience, look no further than this hidden gem of a steakhouse. I had the entraña (skirt steak), and I can confidently say it was one of the most flavorful and expertly cooked steaks I’ve had anywhere — tender, juicy, and with that perfect char-grilled crust that true steak lovers dream about.

The plate came beautifully presented with creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables — all fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. The mashed potatoes were buttery and smooth, and the vegetables added a nice crunchy, colorful contrast to the richness of the meat. Every bite felt balanced and satisfying.

The ambiance was warm and upscale without being pretentious, and the service was top-notch — friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the cuts of meat and how they’re prepared.

Whether you’re a tourist looking to experience Costa Rica’s culinary scene or a local who appreciates a good cut of beef, this steakhouse delivers in every way. The entraña is a must-try!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dish Highlight: Entraña...

By far the best steak house in Costa Rica, La Esquina de Buenos Aires has the busy, bustling vibes of authentic Argentinian eateries and locales. The service can be somewhat slow, not due to lack of attention, but because it is always crowded. The rustic decor, dim lighting and vibrant ambience makes it the perfect spot for a casual dinner. We started with cocktails; the Vodka Martini was well made, as was the Pisco Sour. Next, we ordered the Sorrentinos Palermo, pasta filled with goat cheese, eggplant and pepper - delicious! We also ordered the Beef Empanada - spectacular! The Buenos Aires salad was fresh and tasty, although it lacked arugula and was mainly lettuce. The Lomito (tenderloin beef) was perfect - inside tender, lightly charred on the outside, cooked to medium, and MOUTHWATERINGLY delicious. For dessert, we ordered Isla Flotante, a scrumptious, light choice for those who enjoy a little something sweet that is not overflowing with sugar. Absolutely recommended! Be sure to make reservations, as it is always full!

The churrasco steak was cooked rare to order, and was a decent steak, seemed to be just flavored by the grill. The linguini served with it was really salty and a mediocre linguini at best. The tenderloin Malbec was cooked to order as well, and tasted good. But the Malbec sauce was a bit gel like or jam like, not the greatest. The au gratin served with the Malbec tenderloin was also very very salty and was not very good. The mussels had a lot of garlic as the menu mentioned and the sauce was good, the mussels were just slightly overcooked, maybe a minute or two overdone. The flan was alright, nothing amazing. The mojito had a lot of mint, but the mint was just added in and not mulled. The bread served with the meal was fresh and delicious though. For the price, the food here should have been much much better. The restaurant was also very busy when we went and service really wasn't great, and the meal came out very slowly.
