This is an amazing restaurant! We came to the beach and originally planned on eating at another restaurant close by. However, when we walked past the staff at Coco’s said hello to my children and then we decided to try it out. Started with some calamari and beers which were excellent. My kids loved the swing seats out front and the server brought them an entire cup of cherries to enjoy while they played! The view of the sunset is so special and the restaurant was alive with music and guests and staff having fun. We ordered our mains- Coco’s Rice was full of seafood and tasted great. My wife ordered poki bowl and she said it was the best one she’s had so far in Costa Rica. Our kids had their usually plain rice and pasta with butter which they also enjoyed. Overall, this place went above and beyond! There were several other families dining when we were there we got the sense it was a family friendly restaurant. An added bonus: When we were leaving I asked for the wifi password so I could call an Uber to take us back to our hotel. The owner of the restaurant then offered to drive us home. What a nice gesture! We will be...
Read moreCoco’s Restaurant is my favorite spot on Playa Herradura. I have a property nearby and know the area well, and this place consistently delivers excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen knows what they’re doing, and dishes are always well-prepared.
One of our go-to orders is the arroz con camarones. While it’s not a paella, the flavors remind me of one. They used to have paella on the menu, and this dish seems to carry that influence. As someone who cooks paella regularly, I wouldn’t call it the same thing, but the seasoning and depth of flavor are spot on. I imagine the arroz de mariscos is equally good, though I avoid octopus (pulpo), so I haven’t tried it. The fish tacos are also fantastic—fresh and flavorful.
A small word of caution: they’ve added some plastic folding tables, which are flimsy. One collapsed on me, spilling my beer on my laptop—not exactly the pairing I was looking for. Stick to the wooden tables, and you’ll be fine.
Overall, Coco’s is a great place to enjoy a meal by the beach. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s worth...
Read more::FOOD ALLERGY ALERT:: It's a mixed review. Prices aside (consider where you're sitting), the food was just ok. The ceviche was nothing special, cute that it's served in a coconut shell, not convenient to eat it that way, especially as a shared appetizer. The poke bowl was the highlight for our group. Good ingredients, good flavor, highly satisfied. Due to allergies, the chicken salad was ordered "sin nueces y aguacate por alergias" (without nuts or avocado). It arrived to the table without avo, but when I thankfully checked the rest of the salad, the nuts were in fact cooked in with the mushrooms. This is a really really big thing for those with food allergies. (It also had other seeds on it, that were not mentioned on the menu.) Of course, when I showed the server, he changed it right away, but I was absolutely not confident that it was a fresh salad. I'm more than sure they reused the overcooked chicken, at least. My lips got a little tingly, but no major reaction was had...but you best believe I knew where...
