Marisquería y Comida Caribeña Cangrejo Rojo Belén — Restaurant in La Ribera

We just arrived in Costa Rica and were eager to find a great place to eat nearby. When I asked the guy at Almo Rental for a recommendation, he immediately pointed us to this spot. And let me tell you, we are so lucky he did! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for something special. The food is absolutely amazing — each dish packed with fresh, bold flavors that felt both authentic and unique to the area. The vibe of the place is incredibly laid-back and welcoming, with a local charm that made us feel right at home. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall fantastic experience.

What a find. It's about a mile walk from the hotel -- left at the Marriott's main entrance and Marisquería Cangrejo Rojo is a 15 minute walk down the road on the right side. My family and I enjoyed fried snapper, ceviche, grilled sea bass (the day's special), seafood soup and shrimp fried rice. All of the dishes were freshly prepared and delicious. Add in a few beers, a couple of freshly made fruit smoothie-like drinks and half a dozen bottles of water... the whole tab was $108. For 6 people.

Service was quick and very attentive. The owner even arranged for a taxi to get my parents back to the hotel as they did not feel like the return walk in the mid-day sun.

My advice if you are staying at the Marriott Hacienda Belen, take a short walk down the road to Marisquería Cangrejo Rojo. Enjoy some good sea food, well prepared and served in a welcoming atmosphere at a...

I'm not one to write a bad review for a restaurant, but this place really needs a wake up call. My husband and I took a chance on this place and were extremely disappointed.

My husband was warned by the previous bad review for the shrimp burger and decided to still get it. Wow is all I have to say. Why is the bun red? It bums me out that the workers put effort into making food that had no flavor at all. The ceviche was bland. My tuna tacos were overcooked and the sauce on top was bland. I thought maybe I would eat a fry... Not even cooked all of the way. The staff was nice. The atmosphere was great... The food completely missed the mark. While we were eating, one of the regulars was there drinking and was basically telling us to eat somewhere else.

Hopefully it was just a bad day for them, but until they have a good day maybe take their customers advice and...
