I ate dinner alone at Sara (formerly Tonito’s) twice while vacationing in the area. The ambiance is great, and I loved the “bar stools” which are actually swings! But the food is what puts this place over the top. I had the bacon wrapped, goat cheese stuffed dates for appetizer one night and the fish carpaccio the other night. Both times I had the special which was a perfectly cooked, fresh filet of Mahi Mahi on a bed of sweet potatoes and surrounded by perfectly cooked vegetables. I don’t know if it’s the same place, Toñitos and Sara. The bar, the drinks and the mood were perfect. However, they have a room and camping area. I stayed on the room for couple of days due to a friend’s recommendation as it was a “safety place”. Everything was ok the first 3 days, but the last night someone get into my room and stole my gold pulse which was a family relic. I received nothing but indifference and didn’t received a worthwhile solution. Easily the best dinner entree I’ve eaten in Costa Rica in the 3 months I’ve been here this winter. This is an authentic Costa Rican Cantina. Which is refreshing to see in an area that has been overly gentrified, to say the least.
