An absolutely stunning spot. La Luna is located on the southern edge of the beautiful Playa Pelada. We arrived at 5pm for the spectacular 530pm sunset. We got ourselves some delicious cocktails at the bar and walked the beach until the sun disappeared underneath the horizon. Then the charming staff sat us at a lovely table for two with views over the ocean framed by palm trees. Paradise. The atmosphere was lively and casual, with kids and dogs roaming between the tables. The clientele consisted of both locals and visitors. We enjoyed an excellent Chardonnay. The only disappointment was the food. And since La Luna is a restaurant, well that’s a big deal. They still get 4 stars for the sheer charm of the place and its staff but the food we ordered was just short of awful. I had the Red Snapper carpaccio, my partner some sort of bean dip. The Snapper was more of a cerviche than a carpaccio, drowned in lime juice. Incredibly acidic and a complete waste of what I am sure was a delicious piece of fresh fish. The bean dip was ok. For mains I had the fish tacos my partner the kebab. Both plates drowned with stuff: Sauces and greens and cabbage and tasteless taco shells and somewhere in there the grilled fish got completely lost. And despite all this stuff it was all oddly tasteless. It shouldn’t be hard to make a decent fish taco next to the Pacific Ocean. Properly salted fresh grilled fish, some quality homemade taco shells, a little salsa and lime and hot sauce for the side. And what’s with the humongous portions? Quantity does not make quality. I don’t enjoy being this harsh about the food. The folks at La Luna make a tremendous effort to make one feel welcome. However until the restaurant revises its culinary approach I can only recommend La Luna as a wonderful spot for some pre dinner cocktails. Once the sun sets, go...
Read moreI visited coyol and la Luna with my 9 friends for dinners the food was great. The short ribs, the eggplant appetizer, burger, steak, ceviche, red snapper, and desserts were all great.
KEEP READING: CAUTION OF OVERCHARGES ON BILLS
However, at the end of our dinner at Coyol, we had asked to split our bill amongst couples and were told their system wouldn’t allow it. This was strange to us considering we were also still able to pay card. After leaving, on our bus back to our Airbnb, we realized that we were overcharged two cocktails on our bill. Two of the most expensive cocktails.
I’ve messaged the establishment on WhatsApp and have also called multiple times and haven’t received an answer from many correspondence. To add to this, we also went to La Luna for dinner, a few nights later, and were overcharged 2 bottles of water (5,000 colon a bottle!) and also told that we didn’t pay for a cocktail that one of my friends had settled up on a her bill just before I went to paid. I asked the waiter to identify the person in our group who ordered these bottles and she simply shrugged. We tried to dispute the water bottle charges and were told that there was nothing that could be done and they essentially told us to leave. We asked for a business card for the manager and they would not give it to us. In total, our group has been overcharged by close to 50, 000 colon on meals that we had already spent several hundred dollars on each. Truly a disappointing experience.
I would highly recommend you to check your receipts and also make sure you’re not additionally charged anything on your bill because if this didn’t happen I would highly recommend both restaurants to visit if you’re ever in Nosara, but can only caution you to look over your...
Read moreWe arrived at about 4:30 on a Tuesday and were rudely laughed at by the manager for not having a reservation. However he said because we have a baby he will give us a table inside even though it was already taken.. not sure what that means. We took the table inside and our server seemed so bothered by us. Didn’t give us water for 20, minutes and only one food menu and one drink menu for the table. Once we got our food we were never checked on by our server for drink refills or anything. Another server ended up stopping because we made eye contact and she was able to grab us a second drink. We were done eating and the manager came back over since the restaurant never filled up and he offered us a different table and when I told him we were fine since we were already done, he acted annoyed. The food was nothing special so I am surprised by the reviews. We found a hair in one of the side dishes of the kabobs and when we told the manager he said sorry but didn’t offer any resolution. We got the bill and asked him to comp the meal or give a discount because of the hair and he replied, “Wasn’t it just in the baba ganoush.” I’m sorry but it doesn’t matter where on the plate it was found, that is ridiculous. It took an additional 40 minutes to receive our check and pay and that was after I had to walk to the bar where the server dropped our card to ask her to run it. As I was standing there the manager walks up to the bartender and tells her to run the card before making the drinks because we have been a problem… If you want to make a reservation you might be given better service but I doubt it. We still saw multiple people come inside looking for someone to help them at their table. This place is really just...
