This is a place we'll never visit again and will not recommend to visit to anyone! We called before leaving Parrita after reading about this place in The Lonely Planet. $30,- a room. Afther checking the price with the front office and checking if they had a room availible we went to San Gerardo. When we got there we where welcomed by a sweet woman with her daugther. Very sweet people.I asked if I could pay the room in advance. She awnsered that the owner was away and asked us if we could pay when he got back. Of course, no problem. At that timewe checked the rate again, still $30,- per room. After having dinner we wanted to pay for dinner and the room at the owner. Price for the room: $90,- please!!!! So we tried to explain what was told to us. He dropped to $60,- per room. When we didn't accept thatoffer he told us he had a lot of costs to make so he could not get nay lower with his price. But he could offer us (3 people) another room for $16,- per person. We went to see this room. We got a 2 bedded room, so we had to use 2 different rooms! We didn't want that, but we also felt like the guy was playing us. If you have so many costs, why do you want to clean 3 rooms in stead of the 1 we were already in and why 2 lights burning instead of 1? We desided to leave in the dark. We desided we'd rather sleep in the car than stay with a person who is after our money the wrong way. Afther getting to a bar in San Gerardo there was a very helpfull woman who helped us afther several calls we could go to El Pelicano ( Also in San Gerardo ) They allready closed up, but opend for us at 21.30. So if you're looking for some place nice El Pelicano is the place to be. Better rates and a lot more for your money! And amazing service! Unlike...
Read moreHazel could not have been more helpful; we really appreciate the extra effort she made to make our stay perfectly enjoyable. Our arrival could have been chaotic as a special soccer tournament had started and some of her family members and friends were participating. But she took the time before our arrival to make sure someone would keep an eye out for us, and she had prepared a very detailed map of hiking trails, restaurants, and other attractions to get us started. Fabulous. That hand-drawn map became our guide for our entire stay; perfect. (Maybe she'll make a permanent one someday!)||||We visited during the dry season, late February, and stayed in the Mountainview Suite for three nights. We enjoyed the Suite, but the other rooms would have been fine as well. Breakfast was a treat every morning with the friendly and effervescent waitress and chef. If you're a coffee drinker, you're in for a treat!! Every b'fast was delicious and ample; the chef obviously has formal training. Our only regret is that we did not have dinner at the restaurant because of an unexpected conflict.||||San Gerardo de Rivas is a genuine Costa Rican village with a diversity of natural resources for which this Special Country has become...
