I could go on and on about our recent experience at La Cabane. We were staying nearby at the JW Marriot and wanted to get off property for a nice, local meal. We Googled restaurants nearby and decided to venture out and try La Cabane literally knowing nothing about it. And simply said, what a home run. The experience we encountered was unexpectedly special and unique.
The ambiance, food and service were all exceptional, but it was it was each element combined with a special intimacy and feeling that will make that meal last for a very long time. The chef is from France and brings with him the experience of a youngster who grew up cooking with his family in their hometown of Nice. Not being a classically-trained chef is also what Thibeau special host. It is located along a dirt road on your right as if you're heading to Lola's in Playa Avellana - a relatively small space with indoor and outdoor seating, but very open and rustically Costa Rican.
I cannot pick a highlight as each contributed significantly in its own way but, of course, the food was phenomenal. We ordered of a small menu written in chalk on a black board...and it changes weekly, and sometimes daily adding to its originality. If you are in the area and want to try something unique - please give it a try and tell T that Jeremy and Keely sent you! Also - the price point is very reasonable. Plenty of delicious food for two for less than $60....

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a restaurant that completely exceeds your expectations, and this was that place. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, and welcoming. The host made us feel like old friends, the bartender crafted drinks that were nothing short of magic, and the chef? An artist.
But the food, the food! is what we’re still dreaming about. The butcher plate was an absolute standout: perfectly cured meat, rich flavors, and beautifully presented. The fish of the day was impossibly fresh and cooked to perfection. The cauliflower was shockingly memorable (who knew cauliflower could be so exciting and full of deliciousness?), and the cake... we’re still talking about it. Moist, flavorful, and the perfect sweet note to end a flawless meal.
Did we go back for breakfast twice after our dinner experience? Yes indeed we did and it was also as delicious and welcoming as our dinner experience.
If you're in Costa Rica and looking for a dining experience that hits every mark; service, setting, and sensational food, this is the place. We can’t...
Read moreThis is one of our new favorite places. The chef is awesome . When he explains his dishes his passion is obvious. He makes each dish with great thought and love. It’s difficult to not go back for every meal . I want to try everything. We had the Caramelized Cauliflower and the butchers meat for our first dinner. They were “oh so good “. We also ordered the Tuna Bowl as takeout on a different day and it was so refreshing and satisfying . For breakfast we have had the eggs Benedict which were the best eggs we ever had. We also ate French toast and a classic ham and cheese sandwich just like the chef used to eat at his grandmothers house growing up in France . Everything including the salad greens were fresh and tasty . The prices were also very reasonable. It is also in a beautiful relaxing spot surrounded by trees and beautiful foliage. Can’t...
