Our visit to Hora Hvar was nothing short of magical—an unforgettable journey through the flavors, traditions, and hospitality of this beautiful island. The experience was centered around a thoughtfully curated wine and olive oil tasting, paired with a stunning farm-to-table meal that celebrated everything local and seasonal.

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our exceptional waiter, who managed to balance charm, knowledge, and attentiveness with ease. He guided our group of 11 through the evening with care, accommodating a wide range of dietary preferences—vegan, pescatarian, and meat-eaters alike—with grace and enthusiasm.

The meal began with an impressive spread of sardines, homemade salami, local cheeses, pickled vegetables, and olives, setting the tone for what was to come. A comforting vegetable soup followed, paired perfectly with fresh focaccia and a tasting of their house-made olive oils—each with its own distinct character. The flavors were pure and authentic, straight from the land around us.

Next came a creamy and rich vegetable risotto, bursting with freshness. The highlight of the main courses was the traditional peka, prepared two ways: tender, fall-off-the-bone lamb and flaky, perfectly seasoned fish. It was rustic Croatian cooking at its finest—hearty, soulful, and deeply satisfying.

All of this was elevated by four incredible wines, each crafted from grapes grown right there on Hora’s farm. From crisp whites to robust reds, the wines were a true expression of the land and perfectly matched each course.

And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any better, we were treated to sweet marinated plums for dessert and had the joy of meeting a one-week-old donkey named Roo, who quickly stole everyone’s hearts.

This experience was more than just a meal—it was a genuine connection to the island, its people, and its traditions. Hora Hvar offers not only incredible food and drink but also a deep sense of place. I left with a full belly, a grateful heart, and a newfound appreciation for the...

A spectacularly beautiful farm and restaurant on the Starigaard plain. A picture perfect location looking across the plain and down to the bay. The scent of lavender and bay fills the air here.

I highly recommend coming for dinner if you can. You can ask them to arrange a ride from town - and if you are lucky and come on a nice day they might send you the same open roof bus we had - a really fun was to start our experience here.

Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by Leon our host/waiter for the evening. He explained to us some of the history of Hora and described what they were doing now and which crops are growing.

Leon was a wonderful, patient and informative host.

First thing offered was an olive oil tasting. With this is an explanation of the process of olive oil making and the various types of olive oil. With this a beautiful light white wine.

Next and entirely local charcuteries/cheese plate and finally the traditional Peka we had pre-ordered. One beef and lamb the other octopus. The beef and lamb dish is long cooked under a cover and was tender and moist and delicious. The octopus was incredible. Cooked in the same method with potatoes and veg and that bottom but perfectly seasoned and tender. An amazing experience we will long...

We had our pre-wedding dinner here with over 100 people from all over the world as well as many from Croatia. All of them were absolutely delighted and charmed, and we really felt like we’d shown them the best side of Hvar by bringing them to Hora. Chriss should get a gold medal for how brilliantly he handled everything - from first contact with my parents, to preparations leading up to the event, to the execution on the day. He always replied in minutes, and was consistently friendly, relaxed, reliable, and had a great sense of humor about everything, even when we sprung last-minute changes on him. The dinner itself was seamless: shuttle service from Hvar and back, unbelievable food from peka with very generous portions, and, of course, great rakija and wine with the most stunning view on the island (in my humble opinion). Some guests who had had several peka said this was the best one. But all of this wouldn’t have been the same without Chriss and his amazing team of lovely guys - Vox, Alex, and Ivor (sorry if I got any of the names wrong; we’d enjoyed many beverages by the time we left). Such a special place made even better by a special team, I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone...

HORA came included with the small cruise package we were on, so I didn’t know what to expect—but it turned out to be one of our absolute favourite experiences during our trip, even after visiting three Michelin-starred restaurants for my friend’s 50th birthday. There’s something incomparably beautiful about sitting on this peaceful farm, watching the sunset over the hills, the church glowing in the distance, and a friendly dog curled up at your feet. The food was divine—a refreshing and soulful contrast to the rich, complex courses we’d had elsewhere. It felt like something my grandma would have made, full of heart and tradition. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone. But what truly made this night unforgettable was the people. The hosts were unbelievably warm, sharing stories about the land and their history, and treating us like old friends. It became one of the most joyful, meaningful nights I’ve ever had out with a group—and I’ve dined at plenty of high-end restaurants. The wildest part? Three Michelin-star restaurants couldn’t compare to the pure warmth and joy we felt at HORA. If you’re ever nearby, do not miss this place—it was the unexpected highlight of our entire trip.
