Batak Zadar — Restaurant in Grad Zadar

TLDR: way too hot (while AC was running), food was good/OK, atmosphere very good.

They have two areas, a large front area and a back area. We have been seated in the front area. Problem was: the AC was unable to cool the room. It was almost the same temperature compared to the outside (32°C). The inner area was cooler. We tried to get there but all the empty tables seemed to be reserved. A different group of people joined the restaurant after us and also have been seated in the front area. After purchasing expensive drinks they have been reseated to the inner area. Even though I tried the same for my group (family with 2 small kids) twice before. The personnel did not have a response for the heat.

The food of 4 of our group of 5 was great (e.g. he Zagreb Schnitzel). Everyone was happy. The 5th person however did order a burger. The meat was dead (more than well done). We have not been asked before how we want to have our meat, so I would have expected it to be served as medium. Also the meat paddy was way too small for the bun. That is not acceptable for this price.

As a Serbian food enthusiast with high standards for homemade Balkan cuisine, I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the meal. I ordered "Punjena Vešalica" with spring potatoes, and everything was fresh, warm, and delicious. So much so that I wanted to offer my gratitude to the chef of the kitchen.

The service did rush us up, however, and did not offer to pack our unfinished food, which is a common courtesy, especially since the bowl of potatoes was mostly untouched. Unsure why we were rushed up abruptly, but it felt wrong.
