Terraza Cuba — Restaurant in Cárdenas

What a total rip off of a restaurant. How can the owner of this establishment have no shame in charging $50 CAD for RISOTTO. I have been to plenty of fine dining restaurants in Montreal and have never seen these types of crazy prices. And this is Cuba. I understand there are shortages so depending on availability, some items on the menu may cost more at the time. However, EVERYTHING on the menu was extremely overpriced.

Staff seemed very irritated that we wouldn’t order right away. They barely gave us a minute to look at the menu. First waitress told us the USD amount was the same as CAD which is common in Cuba. Then, the next waitress told us no, the exchange rate is not the same. Well, which is it? They also wouldn’t let us pay using any Canadian change, only bills.

It is a shame that some establishments in Cuba such as this restaurant feel that they can take advantage of Canadian tourists. They should be ashamed. Cuba is not what it once used to be. If you want high quality food with a similar menu for less than half the price, I highly recommend La Vaca Rosada which is a mere 5 minutes away from this one. It is located...

Two scams here. Driver suggested and brought us here. We usually review before eating but went with it. Got taken by the tourist trap scam. Read after they pay drivers tips and we did ask about this in the end and were lied to straight to our faces that of course, “no they did not pay drivers.” Yet the driver went back in after we came out. No other reason for him to do that?

Major complaint was the “suggested tip of 10%” of your already overpriced bill which you find out when they place the bill on your table. We were low on cash and after sitting down were told cash only due to the fact they don’t take credit cards. We wanted to tip but weren’t in a position to leave the suggested 10%. Of course thats when we were told it was mandatory and we HAD to pay that. We leave the required amount only to be told they won’t take our Canadian coins so in other words we need to leave even more money. We were disgusted. Food was good but the rating of 3.9 says it all. Better food/service in town so AVOID this place unless you think tourist scammers are ok. Will never be back. What a disgrace. Hopefully you can avoid any other...

I’m someone to either leave a remarkably bad review to ensure others are well aware of where their money is going. Or an exceptionally good review to tell you how much it’s worth your money.

Been to varadero plenty of times. Never have I experienced such a beautiful environment, service, live music/ band, and great fresh food, I’ve been made absolutely speechless. During our week trip in varadero we went here twice. Definitely “costly” compared to cheaper options. But remember when you pay cheaper rates you get cheaper service/ experiences. This was beyond to our satisfaction!! Will definitely be coming back here on our next visit to Cuba. (Sorry. Meant to take more photos of the food. But it was too good to remember to take photos before consumption haha )
