I will begin with the positives of this resort because that list is far shorter. The beach was beautiful and clean. The location of the resort was great. Staff were friendly but mainly spoke Spanish with very little knowledge of any other languages. The Ac worked as well as the Tv. Pool was clean and warm. The food was alright but not anything to be desired.
Now to bring up the negative of this resort. They advertise a lot of items on this resort that are either non existent or very terrible.
1.First of all we spent 7 days at this resort and they did not change the sheets at all for the entire 7 days. We knew this due to myself and my friends makeup rubbed off on the white sheets the first day and remained there until the day we left.
2.We did not have hot water for the shower. the entire trip
3.We had bugs in our room ( not in the bed) due to the lack of sweeping and mopping in our hotel room.
4.They advertised wifi in the lobby, beach towels provided, bar on the beach, smoke free property, wake up call service, gym and cocktails.
There was no wifi in the hotel, you had to walk 6 blocks to another hotel to stand outside and use it. Super inconvenient when trying to book flights and check flight updates. Beach towels were not provided period. There was no bar on the beach at all. People were smoking all over the hotel, in the lobby, in hallways and didnt have a problem blowing it into your face. Our phone didnt work in the hotel so we were not able to get a wakeup call. The gym was locked and looked like it hadnt been inservice for many years not to mention all the equpitment was either damaged or not able to be used at all. AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT OPTIONS FOR COCKTAILS IE, PINA COLADAS, STRAWBERRY DAQUIRES, SEX ON THE BEACH ECT... If you do not speak spanish do not attend this hotel, mostly locals go to this resort and all activities are spanish.
If you do attend this resort you will need ; all bathroom items, spanish to english dictionary, snacks for when the all inclusive food is closed, water, money, towels.
I think this resort needs an overhall and the fact that it is rated a 3 star is laughable. I had a great time in cuba but will definitly be choosing a better resort for...
Read moreRecently visited Club Tropical. I usually don't write reviews.. However, I believe I should be honest about this one. I've been to Cuba several times before, and to dozens of resorts across the Caribbean.
Pros: Amazing beach. Definitely worth of the title of one of the best beaches on Earth. Hotel was steps from a clear, white sand, shallow turquoise water beach.
Location was great. Right on the Varadero main strip. Cuba is basically a 3rd world country, so you're not getting much in terms of a downtown - but to see and experience the Cuban lifestyle is still quite interesting.
Rooms were fine. Nothing amazing, but air conditioner worked.. minimal to no bugs or critters inside our room. Shower barely worked and was cut off one afternoon, which was unfortunate. Great TV with basic Spanish channels. Lights worked. Comfortable bed, etc.
Cons: Buffet was alright, kind of slacking. Had the essentials. Meat, rice, some pasta, bread and fruit. Drinks were subpar. You basically either had beer (which was cold and good), or straight liquor. They advertised 15+ cocktails, couldn't make any of them. Barely any ice, so what good are cocktails at that point?
Snack bar was lacking. Ham and bread sandwich only. Renovations were going on one of the days we were there. Couldn't use the pool, water was turned off, a big tile portion of the lobby was ripped up. Not much you can do about that - guess they needed to fix the water line.
Overall, if you're looking for a beautiful beach to get drunk at with not much else really to do unless you want to pay upwards of $200+ each for a couple excursions.. then Club Tropical is fine. Cuba is a country forgotten in the past. Varadero is a beautiful place for a simple, reasonably priced vacation.
If you want drinks - beach - sun - and lazing around.. Club Tropical will do. If you want quality entertainment, great service and menu selections, a better maintained resort that is more lively with the same beach as Club Tropical.. there are better resorts to stay at during your stay along the...
Read moreWorst weekend ever!! Father's day weekend the hotel was overflowing with locals celebrating the holidays. There was maybe 16-20 tourists and the rest were locals. And nothing wrong with that except the hotel was not equipped to handle all the guests. We spent two days eating out because the restaurant was so busy and couldn't handle the volume of guests. After waiting to get in for lunch on the Saturday we still couldn't eat because they ran out of plates. A couple of times we were eating soup from the coffee cups. We arrived late in a Weds. night and because there were so few tourists staying, they had a skeleton crew on. Which was okay, but when hundreds of locals turned up for the weekend they didn't bring on any extra staff, or plates!! The pool was constantly filled with children and some adults. From 8am to pool closing. And after observing that no one, not even some of the adults were getting out and using the bathroom, I had no desire to get in. Two locals went to the snack bar and ordered 16 ham and cheese sandwiches. Just for the two of them, no one else. So you can imagine how long people were waiting in line. Saturday night the kids were running around the playground until midnight, unfortunately, our room was above the playground so you could hear them. And the next day the entire place was an absolute disaster. Plastic glasses strewn all over the place. Literally hundreds of them. In the planters, on the walkways, just everywhere. And it was like that until Monday, which was unfortunately the day we were leaving!!! The hotel staff are absolutely amazing, if it wasn't for them things could have been worse. I have stayed at this resort many times, and have never experienced anything like what we did that weekend. I will return, however, NEVER on the Father's or Mother's day weekends. And will only stay Mondays to Fridays during the summer months. Outside of that this is the only place in Varadero I...
