Family Nest Fish Tavern — Restaurant in Strovolos

Best Fish BY FAR, grilled but succulent

Being used to the local tastes (and the consistency of the dried meats and fish grills) I was really surprised to find that this taverna held such high standards of both their recipes and of the service. Run by a family (and for so long!), Mr Kyriakos has the leading role of selecting the fish and crustaceans and running the kitchen, his wife helps with the administration and billing, while their lovely daughter operates the tables with the rest of the waiters, all in the best of the cypriot well disposed, congenial, helpful and obliging way that I haven't witnessed since my childhood.

|The way it works is more or less as in other fish tavernas, either by ordering the set ‘mezze’ menu (fixed restaurant choice of small portions of dishes - from cold starters to grills, or, ordering (choosing) your own dishes from a selection on an ice bed display, without limitations. Although more costly, these portions can be sized up by how much you decide to order (everything is weighed raw and verified in front of the client, and subsequently charged at the restaurant rates). On display are 5 to 8 types of sea fish, nearly all of the crustaceans (shrimps to lobster) and all types of molluscs (from baby calamari, sepia, etc. to octopus, and shellfish), the array is so wide it'll leave you stunned for choice. The extravaganza starts with the cold dips and salads and then whatever is readied first, following in suit as the kitchen prepares the grilled seafood. This taverna is a must experience, with fresh and well prepared seafood, without anything charred or even remotely dried. If it’s fish you want and you are in Nicosia (Strovolos), then Family best is the best Place for you! They have a vast variety of fish dishes including “Fish Meze”at reasonable prices for Cyprus. It has to be said that although Cyprus is an island with some of the most beautiful waters in the Mediterranean, fish is very expensive compared to other European locations! Family nest is a family run “shabby chic” style restaurant, in a lovely location with lots of parking. Great for parties or for a romantic night out. The premises are clean, including the toilets and although you can smell the delicious and fresh fish they cook, you won’t go home with a fishy smell on your clothes. "Family Nest", μια ταβέρνα της δεκαετίας του 1990 στο Στρόβολο φάση "Αλίκη Βουγιουκλάκη στο ναυτικό" που την είδε φάση "Μύκονος".

€152 λογαριασμός για 2 άτομα Δυστυχώς, δεν πρόλαβα να φωτογραφίσω τα "πιάτα" για να έχετε εικόνα. Η ανάλυση του λογαριασμού όμως τα εξηγεί όλα.

Συντοπτικά: • Το αποκορύφωμα είναι το ψάρι "Φαγκρί" που υποτίθεται ότι το ζύγισε 0.935 kg, δηλαδή σχεδόν 1kg και το χρέωσε "αναγκαστικά" €70! • Μικρή μερίδα τηγανητό καλαμάρι €19 (η μισή ποσότητα ήταν πατάτες) • Φρούτα, ρώτησε στο τέλος αν θέλαμε (σε άλλες ταβέρνα συνήθως τα κερνούν ή τουλάχιστον ενημερώνουν για χρέωση), και χρέωσε σχεδόν €12 για λίγα κομμάτια καρπούζι και λίγα κεράσια. • Δεν υπήρχε μουσικό σχήμα για να "δικαιολογηθεί" η υπέρογκη χρέωση

Όσο για τη συμπεριφορά του, ρώτησα αν μπορούσα να φέρω το μικρό σκυλλάκι μου, ράτσας poodle, το οποίο είναι εκπαιδευμένο, ήρεμο, ήσυχο και αθόρυβο. Δέκτηκα να αλλάξω θέση και να μάς πάρει σε μια θέση στη γωνιά του εξωτερικού χώρου. Προειδοποίησε ότι αν γαυγίσει θα "ΜΑΣ ΠΕΤΑΞΕΙ ΕΞΩ". Η πιο αγενής και αντιεπαγγελματική απάντηση που πήρα σε επιχείρηση.

Τούς είχα επισκεφτεί 2 φορές στο παρελθόν και ήθελα να πάω ξανά γιατί μού είχε αρέσει το φαγητό. Αυτή τη φορά όμως με προειδοποίησαν άτομα της περιοχής πως ακρίβυνε πολύ τις τιμές του και τον χαρακτήρισαν "κλέφτη". Δεν φαντάστηκα όμως ότι θα κατέληγα σε λογαριασμό της τάξεως του "Four Seasons".

Οφείλω να ομολογήσω ότι ο chef είναι πάρα πολύ καλός και οι σερβιτόροι πολύ εξυπηρετικοί και φιλικοί, όμως η πολιτική της διεύθυνσης θα καταστρέψει την επιχείρηση. Όσο καλή κι αν είναι η "κουζίνα" ή η εξυπηρέτηση του καταστήματος, η στάση του, η συμπεριφορά του και η οικονομική εκμετάλλευση ακυρώνουν την επιχείρηση.
