Read moreWe visited Tochni Tavern to celebrate my birthday, drawn by its high rating on Google Maps and the promise of a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations.
Although we were seated outdoors, we had no view at all, as we were placed in a corner behind a windscreen. This was disappointing, especially since the view was one of the main reasons we chose this tavern.
We ordered meze for 7 people, but the portions were surprisingly small. Some dishes, like the oven-baked pasta, didn’t even have enough for each person to try a piece. Overall, it felt more like individual-sized portions than a proper shared meze experience. The flavors were also unusual—many dishes came with sauces that didn’t resemble traditional Cypriot meze, and the combinations didn’t quite work.
Beyond that, the food did not appear fresh — several items gave the impression of being pre-cooked or possibly frozen, lacking the taste and texture of freshly prepared dishes.
The meatballs were undercooked, red on the inside. When we asked for replacements, we were brought new ones, but unfortunately, they had the same issue.
Among the dishes was some halloumi and cheese included in the meze, and we simply asked for 2 extra pieces for the children. We were surprised to be charged an additional €8 just for that small request.
Finally, we noticed that the table next to us, who also ordered meze, were offered a complimentary dessert at the end of their meal. We, however, received nothing. While it may seem minor, these small gestures are part of what makes a dining experience feel warm and welcoming — and their absence was noticeable.
On a positive note, the owners were kind and polite, and they did ask us at the end if everything was okay. We appreciated that. However, considering the food, service, and the long drive to get there, we left disappointed and won’t be returning.

Perched at the very top of one of Cyprus’ oldest villages, the Tochni Tavern offers a truly breathtaking view over its ancient streets and charming old church.
We had the pleasure of dining here twice during our stay, and it was without question, the best place we visited. On both occasions, we were greeted by the owners and thanked as we left - a small but thoughtful touch that made the visits feel even more welcoming. Our waiters, Sakib and Iraz, also took exceptionally good care of us, their kindness and attentiveness making us feel like honoured guests.
This family-owned restaurant serves authentic Cypriot cuisine at its finest. I cannot recommend the Moussaka and Kolokithokeftethes highly enough. We also enjoyed their Cyprus Salad, Halloumi and dip platter and the Ravioli - each dish a delight in its own way. Fresh, fragrant and beautifully presented. Their special cocktails are also not to be missed, with refreshing virgin options available for designated drivers.
The atmosphere is nothing short of magical. We dined amid a lush, abundant garden while gazing out over sweeping Mediterranean vistas. Gentle Greek-style guitar and soulful vocals drifted through the air, adding to the dreamlike quality of the setting.
If you visit, then consider taking a leisurely stroll through the Tochni village beforehand - its narrow streets and timeless charm are an experience in themselves. And should you wish to linger a little longer, the Tavern also offers accommodation within the village, allowing you to wake up to this beautiful...
