I went to this Monastery Brewery Restaurant three years ago, and I just realized I never posted a review. I really enjoyed the beer - I got the "medium" colored lager (pilsner? I forget), which was just the light and dark mixed together. It was quite good!
But what I remember the most is the food. This was one of the best meals I've had in my life. I had the roasted duck with dumplings and gravy, and the latkes with ostrich meat. The duck was absolutely delicious, but the latkes were mind-blowing. It was one of the exceedingly rare moments where the flavor of something gave me chills.
Also quite notable - from my perspective as a person who lives in New York City, the meal was absurdly inexpensive. For the quality, I would have paid literally three times as much here at least, possibly four times considering the size of the two beers I had.
And as others have said, the grounds and the building are beautiful. I didn't take the tour, but I probably will next time if I go back to Prague...
Read moreOne of the most astonishing experiences in Prague. Not only because the beer is great (one of the best I tried amongst those of Germany, Austria, Denmark and Chequia and above bottled Pilsner for sure), but also (and specially) because the barman, named Borek, is an expert of beers and brewery willing to talk about it at any time. If you go, ask him about the best beers and have a chat with him, and be ready to learn about the tastes and the right order to have beers to make the most out of them (starting with a weissen). We were talking for two hours and it was an unforgettable experience.
For most people it might have been a great beer in a monastery, but if you are willing to connect and learn from Borek and his passion for beer, I can assure you it is one of the hidden...
Read moreLovely sit down here to sample a couple of beers and enjoy a pretzel mid bike ride. Staff were attentive and keen to tend to your needs. The surroundings were stunning and historic. The building had been restored and renovated in a way sensitive to the history of the place but cognisant of the needs of the present. How lovely.
I had a coconut hazy ipa and a cherry twist. Together these complemented the triple mango lost mary I had brought with me and melded together to form a delightful tropical fruit salad like situation of alcohol and nicotine. The pretzel was quite nice too.
The toilets here are very ergonomic, impressive given their setting. The hand towel dispenser was automated and the soap dispenser gave you a good amount first time. Top marks for...
