Cafe Mauritz — Restaurant in Sønderborg Municipality

update* Almost 1 year later from my initial review with Mauritz which was unfortunately not a pleasant experience.

The company reached out and wanted to provide a second opportunity which i highly respect. A company that cares about their customers is rare these days.

To the review: 26/1/2025 dinner service at 8pm

Me an my girlfriend decided to take another attempt at Mauritz, since our last visit almost a year ago (+/-).

The service was overall great. Waiters checked up on the tables after food was served and made sure the drinks were filled. Also, the timing for which the waiters visited the tables were good. Although we were visited by 4 different waiters. (not a bad thing) but apparently good communication between them.

We ordered the classic burger and vegan baby burger. The burgers were good. What you would expect from a Danish cafe. Nothing amazing but definitely not bad! I personally like the French fries. Thick, good consistency and salted well. Also nice to see a place that doesnt up charge on the dip. As an american. Nothing annoys me more than being told i need to pay 5-7kr more for a small dip for my fries. So an included dip is always a PLUS in my books.

We both ordered cocktails taking advantage of the happy hour deal. We both ordered margaritas, although i thought they seemed a little to the small size. I actually enjoyed them, they tasted great and seemed to have a good mix balance. So even though the size seemed to be on the smaller size. I would actually pay the money to get a cocktail there again assuming they are just as good as the ones i received last night.

Overall, i changed my review from 1 start to 4 stars. The reason its not getting 5 stars is that i still was not satisfied with the brunch (from the initial review). But the service and food we received last night has changed my perspective on the place.

Id recommend the dinner or even lunch service. Still not supporting the brunch.

My girlfriends mother came to visit and we decided to try Mauritz in Sønderborg.

We first of all were annoyed at the confusing brunch ordering system. choose 5 of the many items and try to remember them in your head. Would've been better with a piece of paper to mark off the items.

None-the-less, the food was the real disappointing part. The eggs were tasteless, no salt and pepper on the table. So had to ask for that. We got yoghurt with our breakfast. No spoon to eat it with, had to ask for that. Which didn't even matter in the end cause the yoghurt had such a disgusting texture we didn't want to eat it.

Additionally, we both ordered fried fish with the brunch and fried fish as a lunch meal (stjerneskud). The fish should have been gold brown. As fried fish normally is. This fish was soggy and LITERALLY white. As if they threw it on the pan for 10 seconds and called it a day.

After we payed we complained about the terrible food quality, but the young teenagers running the place didnt really care. They are just there...

Jeg var der på min fødselsdag og havde bestilt bord og det var desværre en stor skuffelse.

Jeg havde bedt om flag på bordet via deres hjemmeside. Dette måtte jeg spørge efter, efter en halv time, og finder så ud af, at de ikke har fået den hjem, hvilket er fair nok, men at de ikke selv har styr på, hvad der bliver bestilt , og så måske kunne sige det fra starten..? 2.efter næsten en halv time må jeg selv gå op og bede om at få betjening så vi kan bestille mad og drikkelse. Der går yderligere 20 min før vi får vores drikkelse. Nachoen til 120 var en kedelig udgave. Der var brugt de billigste og kedeligste nachochips på markedet (dem der bare smager en smule af majs og salt) og kyllingen var også en kedelig kvalitet. Noget af vores andet mad måtte vi sende retur da det var koldt. Toilettet var oversvømmet og uden toiletpapir hvilket kunne endikerer, at ingen havde tjekket op på toilettet fra dagen før (klokken var 12 middag) Inden kom og spurgte hvordan vores mad var eller om vi havde brug for andet. Betjeningen var sød men virkede udvidede og generelt virkede det ikke til, at der var meget overblik , selvom der ikke var mange kunder.

Alt i alt en ret trist oplevelse, som jeg også har meldt ud til dem via deres hjemmeside, så jeg håber...
