Unagui Japanese Cuisine — Restaurant in Higüey

This was an unreal experience, in the best of ways! The attention of the owner, the quality of the materials used and the ambiance were the perfect marriage to create an unforgettable experience for all the senses. This is not your corner sushi place and the price goes along with the quality. If you want just supermarket quality and price sushi.../this is not your place. If you want to create a lifetime memory and appreciate greatness...then do not miss this place! Their Toro was authentic, fresh and flavorful! The Lardo of the sea, no doubt! Their Hamachi was arguably the best I have ever had anywhere in the world! Do not miss the roll with shiitake mushrooms! The jumbo scallops and shrimp tempura........I can’t even describe the flavor. Just experience it and thank me later! Save a spot for dessert....words that have never come to my mind in a Japanese restaurant! Their brownie tempura.....you HAVE to try that!!!!! Again....thank me later! The snickers bar wontons are a se one insanely delicious choice!

This was our first visit to Unagui, but it will not be our last! The food was amazing, sushi was perfect, high quality ingredients, a good mix of unique flavors. The wasabi was a very good quality. We also tried a hot dish, the beef with edamame beans, and the beef was so tender it just melted in your mouth, while the flavors were fantastic! But what really made our visit special is that we have two children with nut and shellfish allergies. The staff listened to our concerns and then spoke directly with the chef to make sure that the children’s food was prepared separately and with care. The kids food, was delicious and freshly prepared, and knowing it was prepared safely helped me relax and we were able to enjoy a wonderful time together! We are ready to enjoy another...

Food is ok however had a horrible experience with one of the servers. Very obnoxious. I asked for extra ginger he didnt seem happy because I had asked for a to go container earlier. So after we asked for the check, he came over to remove plates very abruptly. Spilled remaining soy sauce everywhere including my white bag, my hat and all over the floor. I told him very nicely what he had done. Didnt even apologize. Rather said that these people act so entitled and kept walking. Another server came over and helped me try to clean it and apologizing. But my bag and hat, as you can see in the photos are damaged. Tried to clean at home but did not work. Manager said he would get back to me to amend things but nothing yet after...
