SBG Punta Cana — Restaurant in Higüey

This place literally ruined my birthday. Let’s start with the service. We were seated for 20 minutes before our sever who had been just roaming around the restaurant doing nothing finally decided to greet us to get our drink orders. Had he been actually attending to other tables I would’ve been a bit more understanding but no. He gets to the table and his attitude immediately screamed that he did not want to serve us. After waiting 20 minutes of course we know what we would like to drink and eat. We are hungry so we attempt to order appetizers and our entrees all at once. The server then tells us that the kitchen is out of salmon. I’m already agitated so at this point I don’t want the entree just the appetizer and drink. As we are finally getting water (now 30 minutes after being seated) another couple and a family is being sat. We sit for an additional 30-40 minutes and realize both the couple and the family have received their drinks immediately after being sat. The couple also received their appetizer before we received any of our food. 10 minutes after they received their appetizer our food comes but it’s cold. At this point I’m livid so we ask for the check. As we’re attempting to check out the couple next to us receives their entrees and low and behold the young lady has salmon as her entree. Instead of becoming as undone as I felt we advise management of what happened and we left. The service I’ve received from ppl while visiting Punta Cana does not match all of the raving reviews I’ve heard from others at all and it’s extremely disappointing because this is such a beautiful country but the citizen’s attitudes do not...

Bachata Rosa is Juan Luis Guerra's restaurant located inside Blue Mall in Punta Cana.

JLG is a world renowned artist and this restaurant represents all of his achievements as seen in the entrance of the restaurant by displaying all of his albums on the floor and pictures in the wall, the menus have his songs and even the plates display some kind of art, great job in the design. The restaurant is also a homage to his country by seen in the decor through out the whole restaurant, from the entrance (the bus, the house, the colmados (bodegas) everything represents DR.

Now onto the food and service...service was great, our waiter was very polite and respectful when speaking to us and we asked for his suggestions on entries and main dish and he took his time explaining each meal and the great service never stop all the way to the end.

Now onto the food, we had as entries, Lamb Samosa and as the main dish we had Sirloin with Tostones, Dominican Style Concon Paella and Plátano Power Roll (sushi without rice) and everything was amazing, check the pictures and they won't do justice to the taste of the food.

To finish the main host told us to try the Chinola Cake (Frit Passion Mousse) (maracuyá, parcha) a dessert not yet on the menu and my goodness it was out of this world.

This was out best mail by far during a week in DR, mind you, I stayed in Punta Cana, Samaná and Santo Domingo.

Overall I'm impressed and happy that this restaurant offers so great cucine and service at a fair price, I wish we had one in New York...

Good Customer Services (nice people) but very disorganized (bad services operations): Overall good customer service since people here are nice. However, yesterday there was clear of desorganization dealing with a private event, reservations and general customers. It think this big issues was that you have some many people asking over and over the same question but not executing the ask from the customers. I will suggest to distribute the tables by waiter. The food took a long time and we needed to ask for status after 45 minutes.

Laud Background Music: Very uncomfortable environment for conversation. Yesterday they had two strong music (laud electronic music) plus Caribbean music from the private event.

Food: Food was 7/10 Very Small portion Salty food (Pasta and Pulpo) Honestly it was not the best place in punta cana for food. Maybe the one with luxury for pictures. Overall, If I only focus on food this place would be two star.

Restroom on second floor. Very dark without a clear indication between man or woman. It think it was not a good idea to make man feel like customer from the first floor can see you while using the standing toilet.

Price: Based on the food overpriced Based on the luxury of building good.
