Il Capo — Restaurant in Santo Domingo

Very disappointing experience at Il Capo. The bathroom was extremely dirty, which already set a bad tone. We ordered the carbonara, and it was clearly made from an instant powder mix—this is not real carbonara, just artificial white sauce from a packet. An Italian restaurant should know the authentic ingredients.

The appetizers arrived almost at the same time as the main course, showing poor coordination. There were far too many staff members standing around doing nothing, yet the service was still inefficient.

The piña colada was terrible—overly sweet and unbalanced. The restaurant's decor is outdated and cluttered with fake plants, which makes the atmosphere feel cheap. The food overall was overpriced for the quality we received. The pesto pasta was not well made either. The only decent dish was the cannelloni, but not enough to make us return.

For being a "Traditional" italian restaurant the food is too basic and bland. Service is OK but could be better and more attentive. The bread basket you get is an attempt of focaccia, as is only baked pizza dough with no seasoning whatsoever. They accompany that with a bit of chopped tomatoes in oil (not olive oil). We ordered Pomodoro and Basilico Gnocchi and Penne Carbonara. It was dissapointing to see that the parmesan they offered was the processed and grated one that you'd buy at a supermarket. Gnocchi 's pomodoro was overly acidic and overseasoned with onion powder. Penne was bland and sauce was not properly reduced. The ambiance and service at this restaurant was amazing. We traveled with a group of 15 from the US. Very clean, professional and accommodating with our large group.
