I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kategna Restaurant located in Laphto Mall, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality that set the tone for a wonderful dining experience.

The decor beautifully blends traditional Ethiopian elements with contemporary design, creating a unique and inviting space. Service: The service at Kategna was impeccable. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. They took the time to explain the menu and offered great recommendations based on our preferences. We never felt rushed, and our drinks were refilled promptly.

Food: Now, onto the star of the show—the food! Kategna offers a diverse menu featuring a variety of traditional Ethiopian dishes. We started with the "Kategna" (the restaurant's namesake), which was crispy and flavorful, served with a delicious dipping sauce. For the main course, we ordered the Chekna Tibs with gomen be siga and the Shiro with Gomen for my sister as she is fasting at this moment. The tibs was rich and spicy, with tender meat that melted in our mouths. The shiro was a colorful array of lentils, chickpeas, and sautéed greens, all bursting with flavor.

The injera was fresh and perfectly fermented, complementing the dishes beautifully. Each bite was a delightful exploration of textures and spices, showcasing the rich culinary heritage of Ethiopia.

Drinks: We also tried their traditional Ethiopian honey wine, which was a perfect pairing with our meal. The selection of drinks was impressive, with options ranging from local beers to international wines.

Dessert: We couldn’t resist trying the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, which was a highlight of our meal. The coffee was aromatic and expertly brewed, providing a perfect ending to our dining experience.

The food is good. However the service very very poor. Very unattentive waiter\ waitress. Business model sucks, e.g, you want to eat half firfir and half Shiro, or you want to add another half of something to your order , they would say no....that half goes with that one. I even spoke to a manager and he said he does not have a price for half of this when combined with thay one. It is really really very annoying place to go. Local people will go there just to eat a particular dish they did before but still they complain about the service. Right now when I m writing this review, another person was fighting with the manager because he asked for injera and the server didnt bring it.
