My kinda place.
Food was solid, quality ingredients and good execution. Sure there are a few small things I would do slightly differently but I could tell they put some thought into it. For example, fresh cherry tomato on a Neapolitan style pizza can be risky. They can blow and turn the whole pie into a sloppy wet mess. In this case they where cut in half, pointed up and they held firm.
I had the minced deer pizza. In general very good. Maybe I would have used less components but I didn't feel overwhelmed in the end and everything was well balanced and the meat seasoned to the slightly salty side, which works great on pizza imo.
Dough was solid enough to eat by hand - as it should be - but not too solid to be heavy. The color and texture and char was almost perfect. A quality oven used appropriately.
Service was just how I like it. I don't like being pampered, I don't like fake smiles. I felt like he was genuinely passionate about his restaurant and was organically friendly and professional.
A very cozy place to bring a friend and have a pizza you won't find easily elsewhere.
As for price I know people complain about it being pricey but I don't care. I feel like the industry in general needs to increase it's pricing and quality,...
Read moreI wasn't expecting such an amazing experience in Finland! I've had some really terrible pizza this far north, and my expectations were perhaps jaded by this.
They use 98% local ingredients; olives and grapes understandably don't grow well in this climate. The pizzas have a Finnish spin on them; with fewer tomato-based elements and interesting additions like reindeer sausage, herring, and "Finnish kimchi". Don't be put off, it's all amazing!
The drinks are excellent as well. Many local beers and wines are available, some brewed "about 200 meters away" as the owners told us. Hyper-local!
Everything is wood-fired and they have quite the interesting oven. The owners are happy to talk and tell you about the origin of all the ingredients!
The chef's freestyle is a sort of roulette; it's different every time and always very tasty. We had two delicious variations.
Tldr; perhaps the finest establishment in all of Ekenas. I'd...

The system: they do not book tables. You go, you queu, you get seated. If you are unlucky, you have to wait for an hour for a table. But trust me, it is worth it.
Place is cute, thoughtfully decorated. Staff is nicely dressed and menu is clear and spiced with humour. We ordered their green starter which was delicious. Nearby produced weggies with a deinkable soup.
For main we took two pizzas to share: Cheesus and their chorizo pizza. Both of which contain locally produced ingredients and both of which were excellent.
We took the desserts too, ice cream and sorbet. They didnt tell us what they contained, but made us guess. We guessed wrong but enjoyed everyspoonful.
Pricing: definitely reasonable.
