We visited KOS in Ajaccio, Corsica, during our summer vacation. We had picked it out in advance based on their impressive Instagram – everything looked great, both for lunch and dinner. This was meant to be our “treat-yourself” Friday evening meal where we were happy to spend a bit more.
We were welcomed by a young, smiling staff, which was lovely. We were shown to our table, and everything started off well. Usually, young people are fairly good at English, but that wasn’t really the case here – though to be fair, we’re visiting a French island, so that’s understandable.
We were two adults and one four-year-old. Our plan was to order two main dishes and some sweet potato fries for our child. However, it turned out that several items from the menu and Instagram couldn’t be ordered – which was a bit disappointing, but not the first time that’s happened.
We were told that the white fish was available, so we asked several times whether we could order it as a single portion (since we wanted different dishes). One white fish dish for one adult, and something else for the other. Everything seemed fine, and the whole meal took about 1.5 to 2 hours – no issues, lots of friendliness and smiles.
But then came the bill – and a very unpleasant surprise.
We had apparently been served food for three adults plus the fries for the child. The white fish had been counted as a double portion, even though we had clearly asked for it as a single portion. Suddenly, no one could speak any English, and the confusion was total – though to their credit, the young staff did try to help.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when the manager appeared. This is where it became truly uncomfortable.
Instead of taking a customer-friendly approach like: “We can see what happened here, no problem – of course you shouldn’t have to pay for that, let’s just charge you for X”, he immediately became aggressive and confrontational. It ended in quite a scene at what had otherwise been a cozy and stylish restaurant by the water. It almost felt like we were being thrown out.
In the end, we paid the full bill.
So, a word of advice: be very clear and careful when ordering at KOS. What starts as a lovely experience can quickly turn into a shocking and...
Read moreKOS has a beautiful setting with charming decor that initially made us excited to dine here. Unfortunately, the experience quickly fell flat. Service was painfully slow—through no fault of our waiter, who was clearly trying his best but overwhelmed and unsupported. The restaurant is severely understaffed, and even simple questions or small modifications to dishes were met with a shrug or a sudden language barrier.
Important note: We reserved a table planning to order drinks and light bites (we’re on vacation, after all). The menu is very seafood-heavy—which we don’t eat—but we were fully prepared to meet whatever the minimum spend was. Instead, we were told we had to order full entrees, even though there was no actual spending requirement. It felt like a rule made up on the spot. Wasteful and unwelcoming.
On top of the disappointing service, the food was wildly overpriced for what we received. You’re essentially paying for the view—and while it’s gorgeous, it’s not worth the hassle. Do yourself a favor: snap a photo, skip the meal, and head to the...
Read moreFound this place from its good reviews, walked in for lunch for two on a not so busy day, was told the only table available was a high table right next to their beach station blocking the view, while plenty of empty tables in the inside (and remain empty through our entire dining time, 1pm to 2pm) waiters were rude and arrogant, food price was on the high end but this is expected on a prime beach location. No one cared to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee until we didn’t wanna wait anymore and asked for the bill.
Oh and no staff wore mask, nor did anyone bothered to check our pass sanitaire. In the region where it’s currently top of France in terms of covid, one would find...
