We stayed one night at Auberge du Cheval Blanc in a small second story, one-room apartment located in an old building in the historic district of Ajaccio. The apartment was clean and well equipped and it is a very short walk to the Bonaparte Museum which is worth visiting. An incident worth reporting is that we awoke at 4 am to the sound of water dripping from the ceiling. Unfortunately, it was located above my open suitcase. We put buckets and towels out to catch the water and tried to wake the concierge who lives on the same floor. Unfortunately, we could not rouse her so returned to bed. The water was still dripping at 7 am when we got up but stopped soon afterwards. We packed our bags to leave and then were able to contact the concierge to let her know the problem. The lumpy mattress was OK for sleeping.||But there is a big problem: the steep dirty and poorly lit staircase you have to climb to get to the rooms. If you have a mobility problem or much baggage, this isn’t the place for you. Also, it isn’t a hotel: no reception desk or office, no breakfast (though there’s a restaurant downstairs).
