I recently visited the Maison Bonaparte - Casa Buonaparte National Museum in Ajaccio, France, and it was an absolutely enriching experience! This museum is a treasure trove of history, providing profound insights into the life of Napoleon Bonaparte and the rich history of Corsica.
The exhibits are meticulously curated, offering a deep dive into Napoleon's life, from his humble beginnings to his rise as one of history's most iconic figures. I particularly appreciated the detailed accounts of significant events that shaped the island's history. The museum doesn't just focus on Napoleon but also explores the broader historical context, including the impactful stories of African lives and women's roles in the country.
The narratives about women's contributions and struggles were eye-opening, shedding light on often overlooked aspects of history. Additionally, the information about African influences and significant events involving African lives added a rich, diverse perspective to the museum's storytelling.
The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, enhancing the overall experience with their insights and anecdotes. The Maison Bonaparte is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, offering a comprehensive and inclusive view of Corsica's past. I left with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the island's heritage. Highly...
Read moreHaving arrived at the Porto di Ajaccio a 5 minute walk was all that was required to arrive at The Maison Bonaparte; The home and birthplace of Napoleon. On arrival you may be met by a small que with an average 10 minute wait. On entry your told no water no makeup no backpacks no flash photography so you have to leave all said items at the door entrance which you can collect at the end of your tour. Entrance fee was 7 Euros (July-Aug 2024) with an audio guide provided and route through the rooms and apartment levels was smooth. Levels are reached only by stairs so no wheel chair access available. Audio commentary is guided by numbers posted about the rooms. The journey through the house and listening to the whole of the audio commentary took around one hour. We finished of the morning with a gentle stroll through the village and streets and a walk along the sea front back to the cruise ship...
Read moreWhat a rip off! All tekst in the museum is in French. They have audio guide, but when I asked for one, after I found out in the first room signs were in French only, they told us the audio guides were broken today. They should've warned us for this at the entry as it was clear we only spoke a little French and we wouldn't be able to understand the tekst in the museum. Too big coincidence the audio guide isn't working just at the time a big cruise ship is harboured in Ajaccio and many people are in line to visit the museum. I think they just wanted to make quick money by rushing visitors through the museum so they can let in as many as possible visitors an hour. Audio guides will probably slow the process down.... Too bad! It seemed they had a nice collection. Too bad I can't...
