Came across Chez Christine while wandering around Saignon. Picture perfect cafe with a beautiful outlook, and limited menu. We debated whether we wanted to spend €17 on omelette and salad or hot cheese salad but the view and location was so pretty. All of the dishes cost the same and service was laid back so don’t expect to eat quickly and run….however it was busy and the food was good. It is pure Provence cafe culture at its best - simple, tasty and slow. There was no rushing us to get us out of the table and the salad was a lovely hot cheese melted over crispy bread, with pine nuts, tomatoes, tapanade croutons and a herby dressing. All very nice. £7,50 for a litre of water seemed steep but you don’t mind paying when the atmosphere is so good that you can while away an hour or more over salad!

Lovely little space in Saignon that opens till late afternoon. It was a lifesaver when we were travelling in Provence as most F&B places closes at 2:30/3pm before reopening for dinner. The owners (?) are friendly and accommodating to our dietary needs - vegetarian, no allium (no onions and garlic). We had 2 huge plates of salad (assiette omelette and assiette du pays) - freshly made and delicious. Our only gripe is the price - I suppose it is quite standard for Provence, but we find it quite expensive (€16/dish). I suppose being in Saignon, taking in the beautiful scenery whilst having your meal in their outdoor space is part of the experience/what you are paying for :)

Sweet little Salon de The, or Tea House, which is a peculiarly French concept. Most good is created off site, and they usually have no hot food, as there is no stove or oven. Dishes with hot goat cheese may be heated by a microwave, which is fine. Chez Christine is Trés Charmant, in another amazing village called Saignon above the city of Apt. After lunch visit the ancient ruins, and if you a spry, climb up to the top for the amazing view. Be forewarned, the climb can be difficult in places (like a ladder) so those with mobility issues should not attempt. Chez Christine is very inviting under trees which provide shade in the hot summer.

We couldn't have been happier! A simple "stand" with outside seating (you order and pay inside, if you are eating there they will bring your food)... a bakery with simple selections, but everything on the menu is outstanding. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a 5 star michelin experience - this is a quick bite and simple fare in the middle of touring the city and the greater Luberon. We arrived late in the afternoon parched and hungry, but knowing there would be likely zero options. We actually walked by the little door opening at first, while exploring the adorable city. Upon realizing that "this was it", and the only open option on a slow Spring weekday, we happily perused the menu... all fresh, delicious, and seemingly mostly salads (a refreshing departure from the heavier foods and options are other spots).

I had, as ridiculous as this sounds, what quickly became the best omelette I have ever eaten out at a restaurant. Obviously I was hungry, but it was masterful, to be sure. My wife had the quiche of the day. Both came on rectangular plates and were exceptional well presented considering the atmosphere. They came with light salads, and a tomato remoulade. I ordered a schweppes, we got a 50cl Rose (approx), and we got cappucino's at the end. The total for both of us was 31 Euro, a total of $40 USD or so. So impressive! It was an unexpected treat to receive one of the most fresh and delicious meals from an unassuming boulangerie-patisserie!

For what this spot is, and for what the kind owner and staff are doing here as a service to the town and tourists... it should really be more than 5 stars. THANK...

Saignon is a beautiful town and we were excited to visit. Sadly, our experience at Chez Christine left us deeply disappointed.

I came with my daughter and asked for a table. We were told there was no availability for lunch. When we said we’d just have a coffee, we were told again — no tables, everything was reserved. But there were several empty tables both inside and out.

A couple behind us, who also didn’t have a reservation (I heard them say it), were seated by the same staff member just minutes later. When I went to ask why, I was completely ignored — not even acknowledged — until a young server tried to intervene and be kind. The original server offered a table when my white friends and fiance joined us.

As a Black woman, I don’t say this lightly — it was a painful and uncomfortable experience, especially trying to explain it to my child. We left feeling unwelcome and incredibly disappointed.

No one should be made to...
