On our way back from one of our trips, hunger pangs were so strong , we stopped in Merindol for lunch. That was on a Sunday. We were pleasantly surprised to find quite a few eating places opened. We strolled around a bit and found La Terrasse des Cigales, serving provincial food. Hmmm, interesting, we thought. Going in we were pleasantly greeted and shown our table. The setting inside is nice, bright, clean and pleasant. The real surprise was an actual wood fired oven. There was a prep area and we were treated to the chef’s show of preparing our food. It was a unique experience. Kudos to the chef. He treated our food with so much passion. I knew, our food will taste good (an understatement). We ordered Côte de carré de cochon and Cabbillaud aid légume (replaced with lotte but still tasted good). Waited in anticipation for our food, cooking in the wood oven. When our food arrived, first bite impressions - Wow! Excellent! Fresh herbs of the province, products also from the province, the chef explained. Good interaction between personnel and the customers. The staff and the service is pleasant, the guys are very friendly and offer explanation about each food they serve. Tout était très bon, c'est déjà ça. Mais ça peut être mieux. Le velouté d'asperge : très bon, bon goût, velouté agréable sauf les fils des asperges qui gâchent une partie du plaisir car on ne peut les avaler. Il aurait fallu éplucher ou couper la quête dure. l'aïoli: très bon, le poisson parfaitement cuit. Nous aurions préféré un peu plus de poisson, les légumes coupés plus gros pour une jolie présentation, l'œuf dur moins cuit pour que le centre reste jaune, un peu plus d'aïoli, nous en avons redemandé, le petit morceau de citron aurait pu être plus gros. Suggestion : ayant demandé sans aïoli, vous auriez pu mener directement l'huile d'olive et le citron, ou me demander ce que je voulais pour remplacer. Le dessert praliné très bon.
