Au Moulin du Martinet is a real find for visitors to St Chinian

The location is picturesque and amazingly quiet - St Chinian is a busy small town, but the Moulin du Martinet is an oasis of calm.

The building is an old mill (the mill stream still runs alongside), which has been beautifully restored. The bedrooms are named after grape varietals and we stayed in the Syrah room, which has a huge spacious bed and a sumptuous bathroom.

We opted to have our evening meal with the hosts who are very charming and friendly. Being the first night of our holiday, our French was somewhat rusty, but we managed to make ourselves understood especially when discussing the French origin of some Scottish dialect words!

The meal was delicious, and our only problem was leaving enough space for breakfast the following day. If dinner was great, breakfast was epic we sat in near amazement as delicious items kept arriving from the kitchen and happily indulged for some time thereafter! At no point did we feel hurried to finish or made to feel ‘its time to go’.

We came for the Gallettes and the Crepes. A bit apprehensively. Wow! Came twice in a few days and then encouraged daughter and her husband to go. All of us came home full of appreciation. This is a restaurant that creates wonderful combinations, unpretentious, simple and stunning. A charming family set-up where the service delightfully enhances the lovely food in an arresting environment; we ate outside on the very spacious balcony and revelled in it all. This was such a delightful treat! Friends in St Chinian had suggested it for a spontaneous dinner & Wowie Zowie such a treasure this place is. Beautiful setting with terraces, cozy dining area & the most kind & gracious & welcoming host owner. The food was sumptuous! We had savory crepes, yummy salad & tasty desserts,, coffee & so thoroughly enjoyed each & every bite! Do yourselves a huge favor & get to this place as soon as you can as I predict a huge faithful following of diners soon swarming to enjoy the best Creperie in...
