I stopped here while doing the pilgrimage to Santiago. I ate alone. The large choice of menus convinced me, and I wanted to give it a try. The owner was very quick. There weren't too many people, though. He was also open to giving suggestions and recommendations. His friendly, cheerful, and a bit cheeky way were appreciated after the long, lonely walk. He runs this place together with his wife, who is in the kitchen. The only little thing that surprised me quite a bit was that the lamb was lukewarm. It didn't bother me big time because lamb is even good when eated cold. I didn't complain, and i didn't say anything because the taste was excellent. But I could imagine that this would annoy other people more than it did me. The dessert was excellent. I had even two. The first dish was also delicious. I recommend this restaurant! I paid 36€ for a three course menu and had a glass of red wine, coffee, and a second dessert, which wasn't included in the menu combo.

After a wonderful bike ride from Bayonne to Ustaritz along the Nive river we stopped at le petite auberge for lunch and had a wonderful time. Jean Marie is a great host and the food was fantastic. We were visiting from the US and weren’t that familiar with traditional French and basque cuisine but Jean Marie’s suggestions were perfect and we would definitely return.
