Hôtel Restaurant Brasserie Le Lion d'or — Restaurant in Belley

Not too far from the motorway. Centrally-located in pleasant country town near Pont d'Ain. Other reviews were quite positive, as if "for a french hotel it's fine". Actually french hotels have a much higher standard than this. It's not totally awful, just really basic and not particularly clean. More "local" than an impersonal chain, and doesn't lack some degree of charm. If you can't find anything else, why not. The staff is friendly, the breakfast is fine. The restaurant/café is only open at lunch. At night you're on your own but there's a really great local place called "La Cave" down the side street (after the kebab), or a Lyonnais restaurant further down the main street. The town is very sweet and worth a walk around. We arrived very late, famished and annoyed after hours of traffic jams. The Lyonnais restaurant told us it was too late even for a sandwich (must have been about 21h00) and when we went to "La Cave" the lady took pity on us and went to ask the Patronne if we could eat some simple food. I stayed just for a night. The hotel is very close to the railway station and on the central street with all the shops. It is about half an hour on foot from Perouges. The room was clean, the shower was hot. The host is a really nice friendly man. He gave me a good advice where to have dinner, because in this restaurant you may only have lunch. The minuses are a very tight entrance door (you have to open with the password, because the hotel closes at about 20-20), noise (you hear how other guests are struggling with this door for half a night), no English TV channels, wi-fi did not work on my smartphone. Arnaque organisée : A 20h15, en rentrant du restaurant, je n'ai jamais pu entrer par la porte latéral, le code communiqué est faux ! J'avais mes affaires perso, mes affaires prof dans la chambre, PC, rapports d'intervention, etc... inaccessibles. Personne à l'hôtel seule cliente, toutes portes fermées. J'ai appelé 4 fois les N° affichés 04 74 xxxxxx et 04 74 xxxxxx en vain, laissé des messages pour alerter que je ne pouvait rentrer : personne ne m'a rappelé. J'ai été assisté par un couple adorable qui connait la famille du patron et m'ont donné un 06. On m'a répondu, on m'a rigolé au nez, en me disant de taper le code doucement, on m'a insulté... et on m'a raccroché au nez. Le code ne marchait toujours pas devant témoins. J'ai ressayé 2 fois, 2 fois raccroché au nez. Et moi toujours incapable de récupérer ma chambre. La dame a contacté elle-même la personne et a pu faire débloquer la porte et l'alarme !! 15 min longues et angoissantes. Le patron m'a contacter pendant que je rentrais dans ma chambre et m'a menacé de me régler mon compte et qu'il venait. J'ai récupéré mes affaires et fuit le lieu, la peur de ma vie. J'ai récupéré ma voiture et fuit la ville tellement peur pour ma sécurité. J'ai alerté Booking sur cet incident qui n'a pas voulu annuler ma réservation pour cause de non respect du contrat. Booking a pris les choses très à la légère. J'ai été débité le lendemain et l'hôtel m'a débité 150 € en plus et en m'accusant d'avoir gardé la clé, ce qui est complètement idiot et faux.
