We mistakenly walked into Le 3842 at Chamonix-Mont Blanc in France just around noon, hoping to grab a nice lunch before descending the mountain. Following the confusing restaurant signs in the maze of stairwells, we accidentally entered the restaurant through a side door, missing the small "closed" sign in French.

Once inside, a few unfriendly staff members who were having their own lunch stared at us, and a blonde-haired waitress wasted no time in rudely ushering us out. She simply pushed us back to where we came from and pointed offensively to the small sign, motioning her index fingers from her eyes to the sign several times, treating us as if we were deaf. It only got worse when she pulled out a strap to block the door right in front of us. This was extremely offensive, and we felt we should have been more cautious before entering a closed restaurant. However, it was a Saturday and close to lunch time, so we assumed they were open - a mistake that anyone could have made. I believe the staff could have shown more respect and politeness to tourists who spend thousands of euros to visit their country and support the local economy. What a massive disappointment. 🙁🙁🙁👎👎👎

On a positive note, after this unpleasant encounter, we ended up having an incredibly enjoyable lunch at Restaurant Le Fer à Cheval down...

MOST EXTREME RESTAURANT LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD.

Le 3842 Restaurant, Chamonix, France.

How high can you go? Can you eat in the clouds?

Just when the clouds couldn't break any further, we popped into Le 3842. At the top of the Aiguille du Midi, Le 3842 is one of the highest restaurants in Europe. Situated at 12,605ft (3,842m) above sea level Restaurant Le 3842 offers unrivalled views of clouds and the mountains around it. It is the closest spot that you can set foot on to the highest point in Europe.

There you are surrounded by the tallest peaks in Europe, looking down to the town of Chamonix, over two thousand meters below. The weather is thin and clean, just above the clouds. Fascinating - in one word!

The restaurant's spot can only be reached by cable car and aside from a cafe, there is virtually nothing else around.

The restaurant is fully equipped to host seminars, with a capacity for 30 people, a video projector, a white screen and a flipchart. It offers a fare of locally sourced, French cuisine.

Le 3842 Restaurant opens everyday from 21st December to 31st May.

This review is strictly for Cafeteria and not for the restaurant, but because there is no Cafeteria location here and I believe is part of restaurant. I will start with the cleaning. The tables were we stayed were dirty and very sticky! This dirt was hardened there for at least few hours if not days! It didn't get out with a simple wet napkin! The prices are almost or even higher than Swiss alternatives! For this price you can't afford to hire a person to do cleaning? I went in many places also in Swiss and the services, the veriety of the food and the prices are way better than here! The staff was on a very high rush and unfrendly. Even we spoke with them in French they still been pretty rude. I went here in 2012 and the experience was much better! What happened meanwhile? Advice: take some examples from your Swiss neighbors: services, politeness and a lot of...

Despite our expectation that restaurants on this altitude usually offers more of the view than the quality of the food, we were blown away by how superb the food was. You must order a combination of courses in this restaurant, either 2 course or 3 course, at an understandably higher price. We ordered two sets of 2-course meal and paid around 90+ Euro plus one normal drink. Went for 1 starter, 2 main course and 1 dessert. The local snails plus the sauce were excellent, while the veal was one of the best we ever tasted. The fish was also fresh and the apple pie with ice cream was just the perfect finishing touch. The quality of this restaurant is one of the best I've tasted and if you're visiting Aiguille du Midi, you must visit this restaurant both for the experience and food. Service was also excellent. Loved it.

It may be expensive but totally worth it if you can afford it. The views alone are worth it but the facilities at the top are fantastic too and the cable cars are brilliant . We thought 2 hours at the top would be too long but it turned out to be not enough time and we wished we'd had another half an hour. It was around €62 return for adults and €52 for a child. Well organised system with time slots for the cable cars rather than having to stand in massive queues. Lots of different look out points in all directions at different heights, educational areas, a little cafe, souvenir shop. You can walk out into a glass box suspended over a drop off which is very cool if you're not afraid of heights! Loads of mountaineers to watch, they're crazy!
