La Fougassine — Restaurant in Brignoles

La Fougassine came highly recommended. A visit from some friends gave us the excuse we needed.

We arrived to the unassuming storefront and, despite the autumn chill decided to dine 'under the lindens' in a cozy courtyard.

Olivier made us feel immediately at home, prodding us to 'order first, then taste, then discuss' in response to our questions about the menu items. He aims to awaken his clients' taste buds and passions.

I had a cold that evening, and was not feeling myself. He prescribed yerba mate with lemon and I'm not sure what else. It was exactly what I needed, warming me up from the inside.

The menu items were surprising and delicious, every dish enhanced by some original and exotic ingredient. Olivier inspired us with his passion for food and, more broadly, his creative and unique presence.

In 2019, several months before the pandemic, my sisters and I with our mom visited the relics of Mary Magdalene in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. During our time there we stumbled onto this little gem. Honestly, this was one of the highlights of our trip. We were in France visiting Paris, but this experience was one of the most memorable. It's amazing what effect genuine people, good food and a little wine can have. This review is almost three years late, but I made our host a promise that I'd leave one and here I am fulfilling that promise. He was so humble and funny and sincerely amazing. If you're ever in the South of France please make it a point to stop by and say hello...and of course...

A really truly charming place in the centre of the old town. The owner is extremely passionate about creating a magical and unique dining experience for every guest and made us feel like the only guests he’d ever had! He brought us small morsels of his concoctions to try and asked to guess what they were, the food we ordered was really special! French food but with influences from his travels. Absolutely delicious! The main stand-out point was how he dealt with my coeliac disease. He assured me that he could make anything gluten free and he happily offers this to accommodate all guests (vegan and veggie and other allergies too).
