La Monnaie — Restaurant in Figeac

I give this restaurant, the staff, the food the full 5 stars! Because this restaurant is what it is; unpretentious, packed because the locals know where to go, an ambience truly French, truly regional. You can sit in or out with most opting for out. The menu is fancy enough, the beverages more than ample for any palate demanding something superlative. Service is quick but not in your face: this place can do fast food but chill, don't rush, take it easy. Your experience will be so much more. Cost? here we border on the "I cannot believe this is the bill" territory. You are not going to have to mortgage Grandma. To be honest I have paid maybe 30% more in comparable restaurants here in the region. Of course in Figeac there are other restaurants that are equally worthy of accolade: but this on is worth...

We had a delicious dinner here this evening: local melon with ham and gazpacho for starters, quail and couscous de Quercy for the main courses. Everything was made "maison" and all washed down with a half litre of local rose. Extremely friendly service to go with really tasty food. It was nice to have something a little different as the dishes each had a little twist. A real treat. Would definitely come back again. Total was 70 euros. Great value. Literally gave us indigestion. Friendly staff and enticing menu belies poor quality food made with old ingredients and presented with no attempt to please the eyes. We ventured for the tartare, which should be fresh and full of sharp flavours; it was vinegary mush. The veal we ordered looked like a hastily thrown together mix of things leftover in the fridge and then refried.
