Absolutely overpriced. My girlfriend (a professional chef) and I had lunch here and we were stunned by the distinct lack of quality of this restaurant. We had the €75 menu a plaisir.. The main courses were OK but the lobster starter was tiny and lacking any kind of taste expected from a 1 star. The fruit dessert was terrible, zero finesse or skill. I can only think that the Michelin guide are going off the wine list and the location (vast majority over €100 per bottle) and the focus is on the wine list, the food forgotten. Saying that there isn't even a sommelier! The service was completely overlooked despite only 7 tables being served. To sum this up, we were here for her birthday lunch.. They brought out dessert with an unlit candle on her dessert when she wasn't at the table and forgot about it, not coming back for a good half an hour though we tried to call them over. When we complained they just said 'other people really like it', not exactly what you want to hear. We've had such better meals near the loire in the past week at far better prices, please avoid this restaurant... We cannot believe this has a star, if the Michelin are listening would recommend a transfer to au coins des halles in langeais where we had a genuinely excellent dinner that far surpassed...
Read moreIt was an adventure for the palette and our poor French. The staff were very helpful but they spoke rather fast for us. The wine we chose was lovely and accompanied our meal well. If finances allowed I would have been curious to try more expensive options. Each course and amuse Boucher were beautifully presented and because of our poor French (each course was explained as it was served but we only understood about 50%) it was a test of our tasting skills. The meal reached a crescendo with dessert a fabulous medley of strawberry and raspberries. I need a lesson on the quenells. Super. It was unusual for us to see a dog in a restaurant as this is not permitted in Ireland (guide dogs being the exception). The only thing that we noticed was when a server placed cutlery for one of us incorrectly it was instantly moved by their senior. We would have preferred for this to have just been said to them away from our table rather than embarrassing them in front of us, we appreciate we all have to learn. La Fleche is a lovely town so we hope to return and will look forward to visiting La...
Read moreOver priced. Bad service - we were completely ignored for over 30 minutes with no water or drinks - only 7 tables to serve and 4 waiters who ALL walked past us and didn’t think twice. Dirty towels and dishes left on the table whilst we tried to eat dessert. Food was far below the standard we expected for the price - €75 for three mouthfuls of lobster, some John Dory and a disgusting and very basic dessert of biscuit, raspberries and sickly green pistachio cream. When we complained, we were told the manager had left to go to a wedding and the maitre d’hotel told us “not to say the service was bad” and that “other people liked the pudding”. He didn’t get us water, said “sorry we didn’t see you”. Wine list totally inaccessible - average price €90-115.
A VERY disappointing lunch which was meant to be a happy birthday occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody, even despite the setting...
