La Chaloupe de Rivedoux — Restaurant in La Rochelle

Earlier this month, my husband and 14-month-old baby travelled to La Rochelle and Île de Ré for a week. We ate out every day in both the city and on the Île de Ré island. I can honestly say this was the best meal we had, and we had some fabulous meals that week. I would go as far as to say it was one of my favourite meals of all time. We happened upon this place on our first day on the island at around lunch time and we made sure to book a table again before we left. We had prawns and oysters for starter, beef skewers and monk fish cheeks for main followed by the most incredible profiteroles you have ever tasted (be warned you will want to share this desert, it is out of this world and you won't be able to stop eating it and it's a generous portion - you'll have to lie down afterwards). In addition to the fabulous food, beautiful setting and exceptional service, the staff were top class. The lady who served our table, although really busy, made time to talk to us and made us feel like we were the only table she was serving that day. They were so accommodating of our baby and the toilets even have a proper baby changing table. A lovely location, sitting outside next to the sea on a sunny evening, watching the world go by. There are many tables in this outdoor area, but they are snapped up quickly on good days, understandably. We had drinks only as vegetarian dishes were limited and named only as a vegetarian dish of the day. Le restaurant est très bien placé, avec une vue indétrônable sur le pont et la mer. En terme de place, vous aurez le choix entre les tables en salle parfaites en hiver, et les tables au bord de l’eau parfaites pour l’été. La décoration de la salle est un mélange de naturel qui se marie parfaitement avec les murs vitrés, ce qui donne une ambiance intérieure-extérieur très agréable. Le personnel est accueillant et se débrouille pour trouver une table, même si la clientèle est nombreuse. Le menu est constitué principalement de boissons, et la partie nourriture est assez restreinte gage de qualité mais il y a quand même un minimum de choix. . Les cocktails sont bons, bien que un peu cher, les plats sont raisonnables pour la qualité servie. Un des seul point négatif est l’attente du plat, qui dure environ une heure, heure que vous pouvez rentabiliser avec une planche apéro, attention tout de même car elle est copieuse. Le service vient régulièrement vérifier que tout ce passe bien, ce qui est très appréciable. Les plats sont de très bonnes qualités, la présentation est soignée et les cuissons demandés sont respectées. Les plats sont un très bon mélange entre copieux et raisonnables. Note également positive aux concerts en semaine et à la musique conviviale. Je recommande particulièrement le filet de bœuf qui est particulièrement bon avec la sauce proposée avec, également, l’entrecôte est elle aussi délicieuse.
