Best location in Laon, and you pay for it. On a sunny day, sitting under fluttering white parasols and watching the people strolling past the Gothic cathedral, whilst toying with your chilled aperitif, you might almost think that was sufficient justification. The menu is extensive, the food generally pretty good and the portions a reasonable size. The service is unpredictable: sometimes faultless, sometimes enough to make you think you'd accidentally donned a cloak of invisibility. Food was very nice and staff tried to welcome us by speaking in English where they could. It was a warm evening and we had been in the car all day. We were looking for somewhere where we could eat outside but many places seemed to be shut with it being August. The waitress told us upon arrival that we must eat inside which we agreed to but it was very warm. When we left the restaurant, following an enjoyable meal, we found two groups of diners seated outside, enjoying meals, so we were unsure why we had to sit inside in the particularly stuffy restaurant. Truly Terrible - Please Avoid. Visited last night and left before even finishing our drinks. As non fluent French speakers you will be ignored and treated with a level of distain that is staggering in 2019. The only time we have even asked for water to accompany our drinks and been tutted at for declining bottled and very expensive mineral water. This place is very expensive compared to the cheap service you receive. We raised our concerns before deciding to leave and were shouted at in front of all the other diners!
