A friend and I stayed here for a long weekend in early October, as a base to explore the Ardeche region. My friend spoke fluent French, so I'm not really able to comment on their English language ability as I didn't hear it very often, but I suspect it was okay.|||| It was absolutely charming. The Mas has lovely views over the village Largentiere, yet is far enough away that it is quiet and peaceful. I could see sheep outside one of my windows, and the spire of the local church outside the other. The gardens are very nice, and the swimming pool would have been appealing if it had been warm. The rooms are good sized, and whilst simple with stone floors, they have everything you need (no TV but that was a positive!) including tea-making facilities, and the bathrooms have big fluffy towels, hairdryers and the usual bathroom amenities. ||||The three rooms (a family room, and two singles) open out onto a lovely living area that would be cool in the summer, and cosy in the winter with a nice fireplace. We had it to ourselves the first evening, and on the second, when a family arrived (with two boisterous children) to stay in the family room (which has a double and two single beds), I appreciated the fact that the bathrooms backed onto each other, so there was no excessive noise!||||Breakfast was served outside on our first day, but inside as the weather was colder the following day. Breakfast is simple but pleasant - homemade preserves (the fig jam was delicious), bread, juice and coffee. We also had dinner there one night, in the restaurant at the top of the building. The food was very good, if over-decorated with flowers and very large servings, and the chocolate dessert was excellent. It wasn't cheap though, and the wine list was pretty expensive, as we saw the same wine we had had at a restaurant the night before for about 50% more. However, it was nice not to have to go out again for dinner after a busy day.||||Our hosts were friendly, but a bit casual. A wasp flew into our juice at breakfast the first morning, and it was fished out, and our glasses filled with the juice. We kind of lost our appetite. When we left we paid in cash, and actually had to ask for our change - whereas many places will in fact give you a cash disount. Still, these were minor irritants, and we were very happy with our time there, and could easily have stayed longer.||||They provided an excellent recommendation for dinner our first night, subtly hinting we should go a bit earlier. When we got there (Labaume) and stopped exclaiming over the lovely village (not to mention the amazing drive to get there) we could see that it was worth getting there before sunset. The next day they also provided recommendations on some villages to visit, and perhaps more importantly which...

Read moreWe arrived and were greeted by a beautiful smell of flowers while walking through the garden to our room. The room was well decorated (full of antiques), with a separate bathroom and toilet and with a good sized balcony.||After a quick swim in the swimming pool, we had a lovely dinner on the terrasse in the garden. The menu offered a good choice of entrées, mains and desserts, along with a respectable choice of local wines. The waitress was friendly, helpful and informative. The meal was the real delight, the kitchen has a talented chef working within. Each course was delicious and original - plates decorated with edible wild flowers from the garden. Please try the home-made verveine liquor, it's delicious. After a very good night's sleep, we enjoyed a gorgeous breakfast with delicious fresh bread, home-made jams, madeleines, and thyme syrup.|| We found this place by chance and it was definitely a nice little find. If you happen to travel near Largentière, book a room at Le Mas De La Madeleine, you won't be...
