Atelier d'Ainay — Restaurant in Lyon

My first meal in lyon and it was excellent. They had a daily set menu and it seemed to attract locals. They do not speak a lot of English here but thank you to the young man who was patient with me and helped me order. His exuberance in reading out the specials for each table was really fun to watch.

This is an excellent and reasonably priced place for lunch in Lyon. It is off the beaten track in a nice quartier and the service was friendly and the server extraordinarily helpful. The oeuf en meurette was quite nice, our entries - pork and a mousseline de saumon on top of bulgar - were both well done and well presented, and the dessert of chocolate moulleux in a creme anglais first rate, as was the pot de beaujolais! Très belle découverte : une carte de produits locaux, minimaliste (ce qui annonce une véritable maîtrise des plats), et qui donne envie de tout commander! Le résultat est à la hauteur des attentes, les plats sont bien préparés et goûteux. Le service ne dénote pas, tant dans sa qualité que dans les sourires qui accompagnent les plats. Les 6 convives que nous étions ont opté pour les plats du jour, à un tarif tout à fait raisonnable. Deux petits bémols : la quantité des plats du jour est un peu insuffisante, notamment lorsqu'il s'agit d'un faux-filet (cuisson difficile par manque d'épaisseur), et la salle est un peu bruyante (ce qui témoigne de l'attractivité du restaurant).
