Belle de Mars — Restaurant in Marseille

Fish is not my usual catch, but this place hooked me!

Every dish had this beautiful balance - bright acidity, little surprises in flavor coming from regional ingeredient, and everything was cooked just right. The whole course felt regional, Provençal, and they only serve fish!

1st course: cold cucumber soup with amuse bouche. I’d had a similar soup elsewhere in the city, so it wasn’t totally new, but it was super refreshing for a hot summer day. The mini onion tart in the amuse bouche - Absolute umami bomb. I wanted 10 more.

2nd: seared tuna-like fish and green pepper. Simple, but seriously delicious. The green pepper is so crunchy, tangy and the fish was perfectly seasoned and seared. Also look, so beautiful with fennel flowers, which I’d never had before so aromatic and delicate!

3rd: zucchini flower stuffed with (I think?) a light fish cream. The cream inside and at the bottom felt a bit repetitive for me, but the mushroom garnish was a nice touch - it kind of reset the palate.

4th: fish steak. Cooked just how I like it—not too raw, just slightly under. And the herb on top? Gave it such a great punch.

5th: dessert heaven. Apricot tart, meringue, chocolate puff, mousse... I finished them...

Absolutely loved this place, highly recommend it! Food was superb, clever and well executed, with fresh local ingredients at the forefront. As we are in Marseille, seafood was the star of the show and it was cooked to perfection. At 49 euros the four-course menu was also great value for money, and with the addition of some very nice amuse-bouches and petit-fours, four small courses were plenty to leave us feeling quite full.

The place is small and cosy with a nice open kitchen, and service was smooth. We felt very well looked after - at the end of the night we asked if they could call us a taxi, which they did and even came out to make sure we got in safely, as the taxi was a bit late and stopped at the corner of the street rather than right by the door.

For us, the quality of the food is always the most important thing, and as the food was excellent, the cosy atmosphere and caring service made the whole meal perfect. Merci beaucoup,...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Belle de Mars in Marseille, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. This 4-course tasting menu exceeded all our expectations.

The menu was outstanding, showcasing the chef's creativity and mastery of flavors. Each course beautifully presented and perfectly balanced.

The service was impeccable. The staff were not only professional and attentive but also incredibly accommodating. As an English-speaking guest, I greatly appreciated their effort to explain every part of the menu in English, ensuring I could fully appreciate the nuances of each dish. Their customer service skills were truly commendable, making me feel welcomed and valued throughout the evening.

I cannot recommend Belle de Mars highly enough. Whether you are a local or a visitor to Marseille, this is a must-visit...
