Decided to just go to a steak place and eat alone. Not something I can do, but I just couldn’t leave the city not having tried a restaurant because I was alone! 😂 Read the recent reviews and realized this was going to be the place. Was hoping it wouldn’t be too busy, so I won’t be taking up too much of the servers’ time (with my zero French
 😰) I think I have been lucky throughout my stay here in Montpellier, because this place was also so accommodating and attentive. Went there as soon as they opened (made a reservation at 7PM for a 7:30 table for 1! haha), and was greeted by two very warm and caring staff members. One of them was a fluent user of English, and carefully answered all my questions (Merci Beaucoup!) The steak was cooked perfectly! No one side is medium and one side is rare (or one side too well done). Fries were fresh and felt really homemade style. Unfortunately, they were out of the French beef, but the Australian one was good as well. As he said: it also depends on how the meat is cooked. (And oui, it was!) The dessert —cafe Gourmand—was a dessert sampler of their desserts on the menu, and I couldn’t believe how small but tasty they were. Also had a glass of the regional wine, again with the support of the server (explained/described each wine so very well!) Overall, my courageous attempt to eat alone was a huge success! Montpellier is going to be a very unforgettable place! ❀ Also the interior! Just

Le personnel est souriant mais pas arrangeant. A force ce genre de restaurant un peu cotĂ© prennent la grosse tĂȘte et s’autorisent tout. #lecouperet Pourtant fin de mois, la salle n’est pas bondĂ© et pas de rush visiblement.(intĂ©rieur enfumĂ© 💹) Bref en espĂ©rant ĂȘtre acceptĂ© mon mari et moi prochainement. Peu de moelle dedans et le prix est de 10/11€, je l’ai trouvĂ© pas exceptionnel, l’entrĂ©e au fromage blanc je n’ai pas pu reconnaĂźtre sa forme car tout Ă©tait un peu mixĂ©. La piĂšce de bƓuf a partagĂ© le prix indiquĂ© est visiblement par personne soit 120€ pour deux la cĂŽte de -1kg dont le goĂ»t ne fut pas assez maturĂ© et lĂ©gĂšrement tiĂšde Ă  son arrivĂ©e, alors que le serveur nous annonce qu’elle est prĂȘte et arrive 10min aprĂšs donc lĂ©gĂšrement tiĂšde. Pas de rĂ©chaud sur table contrairement Ă  d’autre restaurant Ă  viande
 Le wagyu en rumsteck tiĂšde sans goĂ»t particulier
 j’ai pu en goĂ»ter des viandes mais celle ci n’a pas fait voyager.. Eau et paniĂšre Ă  pain Ă  demander
. Nous aurions aimĂ© qu’on nous prĂ©sente les viandes avant cuisson afin de voir avant et aprĂšs etc
 Je trouve que le service n’est pas Ă  la hauteur, le speech du serveur Ă  propos des vins est rĂŽdĂ©, les vins ne sont pas exceptionnels
 Dans l’ensemble ce fut une dĂ©ception. Nous ne reviendrons pas et dĂ©conseillons ce restaurant Ă  viande đŸ„© Sans parler de l’agencement des chaises/tables, nous touchions nos voisins des qu’on bougeais nos chaises
. C’est quand mĂȘme pas digne d’un restaurant servant des viandes « exceptionnels »

If you are a person who thinks that a good steak always needs a sauce, then it’s a place for you. We ordered the cheapest steak 19 € and the most expensive entrecîte from UK for 39€, both were mediocre, very thin. Entrecîte was cooked badly, although it was medium-rare, the bottom side of it spent much more time on the pan, than the upper side. The steaks were ready in about 5 minutes after we made an order,which basically means they didn’t rest after cooking. Very oily. The French fries is overcooked and the so-called vegetable garnish was more like yesterday’s hummus with almost dried aubergines.I do not recommend this place

We were visiting Montpellier from Canada to drop our daughter off for an exchange term and wanted to treat ourselves to a proper French steak dinner. The Faux Filet Argentine was good however, the Filet Charolais was not tender at all (we returned it for the Argentine Filet) and the Aberdeen Angus was mediocre at best (I am skeptical of the 300g size on the menu). When the server asked about our meals and we commented about the quality of the Filet and Angus steaks, she proceeded to explain that we did not understand the various cuts of meat and she told us that the filet was a thicker cut of beef so it would be chewier. I thought that perhaps the Charolais may be different but when I looked it up afterwards, it is described as a flavourful cut of meat which is “tasty and tender.” We were surprised by the tone of her response and chose not to engage in a debate. That being said, if she didn’t want to know what we thought of the steak, she should not have asked.

Two other points for the staff: if you don’t enjoy waiting on visitors to your city, do not make your disdain for us so visible (I was in direct line of sight and saw several eye rolls whenever we made a request in English such as asking for an English menu). if you want to complain about us to the kitchen staff, maybe ensure that we have left the restaurant and are not at the bar paying when you do so - I may not be able to converse fluently in French but did take enough of it throughout high school to understand what was being said.

A very disappointing (and expensive) experience which made us feel...

The entire experience was excellent. The menu featured superior quality ingredients and everything was cooked to perfection. Try the Charolais filet. The portions were very generous as well. My wife couldn't finish her Boeuf Tatar. It was very clear everything was fait maison. The dining room is very attractive and warm with innovative wall painting. We even took some photos of it which we normally never do. The service was very friendly, competent, and discreet. Eva, Tommy, and Luca in the front end of the house were all superb, and if I may say so, quite charming as well. They obviously love what they do.
