I reserved the table for 3 .. Saturday evening , impressed on arrival , the owner greeted us and sat us at our table , this was the best touch . I think the owner ( Madame ) should be more involved with her clients , instead of talking with her staff by the bar … We ordered champagne which came in wine glasses ( shock in fact Horror ) NO finesse considering the decor . Then our starter came , I had st Jacques , waitress placed it in front of me , I moved the bowl which burnt my fingers , after two weeks I have just healed … NO apologies nor warnings that the bowl was piping hot … The starter was nothing exceptional but good. We got our main course , I ordered the speciality of the restaurant ( Choucroute fruits de mer ) my seafood - prawns were very over cooked the fish was lovely … rump steak ordered AP very very tough … salmon , small portion but delicious.
We sat with our finished plates for over 15 minutes … is this a restaurant of finesse with 3 working a dining room of possibly 12 covers 😳 Desserts : fine
Then the crunch : we ordered baileys for afters , at about 21.30 we asked for another baileys the distaste and reaction , I had to ask if this was a bother !!!!
My answer to a question : would I return ? I am local and eat out once / twice a week , I always took friends to this establishment on thursdays … such a shame but I am not certain I would rush back , there are places in Hesdin that appreciate my custom and possibly deserve it too .
I have read your reply’s and do not be offended .. I have made comments because your establishment and your repertoire projected professional standing , I did not find that my experience matched the intention .
I am deflated as I was sincerely hoping for the experience to be different … instead I felt apologetic to my guests that I had taken …...
Read morePer the website, not a gourmet restaurant, but definitely a welcome upscale from the run of the mill restaurants in the area. Service is on par. Food is coming out quite quickly (for a French restaurant, compared to American expedited food delivery 🙄) and didn’t disappoint. The duck breast was cooked as requested. The sides and sauce were delicious and complemented the meat perfectly in our mind. The octopus dish was a delish. It’s seldom to find such a dish in restaurants “far” from the coast, and it was well executed. The desserts were just as good: real tarte tatin (with actual apple chunks and not overly sweet) and delicious strawberry tart. And the cheese plate was sufficiently portioned as well as offering some well aged specimens.
Is it a Michelin star experience? Not at all. But it’s definitely an enjoyable...

We visited Restaurant GU in Hesdin and had a mixed experience. On the plus side, the beef and duck mains were delicious—cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The cocktails were also well-crafted and enjoyable, definitely a highlight of the meal! 🍸🍽️
However, the place settings felt a bit uninspired, and the service was just okay. A small but frustrating moment: I ordered a cappuccino and was served a café viennois instead. When I mentioned the mistake, the waiter insisted that’s what I had asked for—not the kind of response you expect in a place aiming for quality.
All in all, GU has some solid food and drinks, but the overall experience could be elevated with better attention to detail and customer service. #RestaurantGU #HesdinDining...
