Les Bartavelles — Restaurant in Nîmes

We went on a rainy night and were welcomed into the warm little bistro. There are fresh pizzas in the menu, but we ordered the menu formule. The ladies were very helpful and tolerant of our broken French (be aware, they don't speak English!) and made some wonderful substitute suggestions that didn't seem to be on the formule menu. As a result, we had the most wonderful meal of homemade regional specialties, starting with Brandade baked as crispy puffs with salad, Colombe de Porc (pork in a delicate curry sauce) and Gardiane de Taureau, a traditional Provencal rancher's stew, both served with the local Camarge rice. Dessert was a warm apple compote over ice cream....

Fantastic place, very unassuming but excellent food and very friendly service. It felt like I was in a family’s dining room! We got 3 gluten free half size pizzas which was too much for two people, but they happily packaged the leftovers for takeaway. Also enjoyed the very reasonably priced drink options, including non-alcoholic aperitifs. Even if you aren’t looking for gluten free options in Nimes, I really recommend paying Les...

My girlfriend (celiacs) and I went for an early lunch and had just an incredible experience. The woman who served and cooked for us could not have been more welcoming and kind, despite the language barrier. The quality of the food was just as impressive and was as good as any I have had in France or in Italy (where I live). We will definitely be back and anybody reading this should go out of their way...
