I was excited to eat a nice lunch on my birthday. We arrived and were nicely seated by a host who wasn't very welcoming. She was unexpressive and looked tired, maybe from the heat. She seated us in a nice spot on the terrace. The terrace is the only redeeming quality of the place.

It was clearly a busy lunch time and our waiter arrived to greet us. But it took 20 minutes to get water, on a sweltering hot day, with 4 children who are clearly thirsty.

We put our order in and the food came out rather quickly. My brother, who has been there several times, said they have great pizza. But in the end, he was disappointed by it. The poke bowl was half salad, with mushy rice, and an overripe mango, almost rancid.

After we ate, the children were getting restless, so we started to get up, little by little, to get some air and to move the children out of the restaurant. My partner wanted to hurry up and pay. He asked the waiter if could pay at the front, but the waiter scolded him, saying we pay at the table. My husband left the restaurant a bit disgusted by the place and the service. Honestly, we all did.

I also overheard our waiter tell his colleague that he'll have quite the work to clean up after us, making it clear to me that we were messy and unappreciated.

My family has been going to this restaurant over the past 8+ years and we will never return. It was supposed to be a special lunch but I was very uncomfortable the whole time I was at L'Union. The locals like it there and my brother did too. Maybe they're only used to serving locals who don't demand better...

A Perfect Farewell Lunch at Brasserie L’Union 1949

What a wonderful last meal to wrap up our visit to the Côte d’Azur! Brasserie L’Union 1949 felt like the perfect place to say au revoir to Nice — warm, lively, and deliciously local.

We shared our plates, which felt just right here — hearty portions of honest, comforting Niçoise cooking that begs to be passed around. The house-made ravioli were exactly what you dream of in this region: tender, flavourful, and served in generous, steaming bowls. Every bite was a reminder that tradition, when done well, always tastes better.

The staff were so welcoming — it’s the kind of brasserie where you feel like a regular even if you’re not. The terrace and bustling dining room were full of locals, which tells you all you need to know.

If you want a true taste of old-school Nice, skip the fancy spots and come here instead. We couldn’t have chosen a better place for our last lunch — and we’re already looking forward to the next...

God start, bad end!

After a nice talk with the waitres we ordered a menu to 25 euro per person. We did not have to wait long for our drinks and the starter, that definitely was very delicious. So far so food. From here it seem that we were forgotten and after a too Long wait, another waitres came and asked og we wanted a dessert.....? I informed that we had ordered a menu, they apologied and aften further waiting at last we got the maincourse, also quite delicious. But at the same time I ordered an extra beer, that never were served and when we told that we wanted to skip the dessert the bill was not reducted. So all in all, very nice food but quite...

I ate here twice. The first time I had the menu trio with salade niçoise, rabbit with gnocchi, and baba au rhum. The second time I had caeser salad and ravioli with foie gras and port sauce. Excellent food, good house wine and good service. Huge portions, best to share. The only downside was the rabbit was a little tough although I rarely eat rabbit so maybe that is normal.
