UPDATE: Had a good laugh at the arrogance and aggression of the owner's response. Yes, I love corn dogs and hamburgers. That's why I spent 3 weeks touring France's fine dining. In fact, I have a dinner at a Michelin starred restaurant tonight in DC. perhaps I'll ask for french fries. I suppose it's easier to attack my character and nationality - irrational as it is - than accept objective and constructive feedback. if only petty remarks could earn that elusive Michelin star.... sheeeesh. what an arrogant prick. 😂😂😂 For the record, my original review was a very fair 3 stars.
short version: good food but somewhat lazy composition. horrifically understaffed, leading to unacceptable delays (and not just from American standards). for these reasons, it's pretty heavily overpriced.
long version: the dishes were good, but each was topped with the same flavors. truffle, truffle oil, crisps, microgreens. the asparagus... the egg... the entree... the cheese. all the same toppings. even if you want to showcase truffle, there are variable ways to do that. this execution felt rather lazy. both the whitefish and beef were paired with the same puree and veggies. with 5 courses, it all got old very fast. insult to injury was the €10 extra cheese course which was.... one slice of cheese topped with the same tired toppings we'd had 3 dishes in a row.
temperature was also off at times. the soft cheese was served near freezing.
one guy (who was great but overwhelmed) waiting, bartending, hosting, and bussing 8 tables. 22 guests... each getting ~6 courses. it's not hard to see why service was PAINFULLY slow. several finished plates sat in front of us for 10+ minutes, with 20+ minute breaks between courses. I'm actually writing this over the dirty plate that's been in front of me for 15 minutes and an empty water that will apparently never be replenished.
it's disappointing to see the business has responded to this comments multiple times and refuses to simply hire a second person. consider listening to the consistent complaints of your patrons. it's not the waiter's fault - it's the owner. and it's inexcusable when multiple people have the same complaint.
all in all, an okay experience but vastly inferior to comparable restaurants at this price point. you can't pretend to be fine dining with lazy flavors and agonizingly slow service. there was so much potential but these issues actually made for a pretty disappointing evening that left us frustrated and slightly cheated, especially compared to the other restaurants we've enjoyed on our 3 week trip. our last night in France - our fancy final hurrah - was a dud.
if you want something semi-fine, L'Achimie was exceptional and...
Read moreThere seems to have been a misunderstanding at the restaurant. My friend briefly left the table to deal with a car accident outside, but the owner/manager mistakenly thought she was trying to dine and dash (leave without paying).
Unfortunately, the situation escalated when the owner/manager called the police instead of clarifying things with my friend first. My friend even showed them a picture as proof of the car accident, but it appears communication wasn't clear. It would have been helpful if the owner/manager had apologized for the misunderstanding.
Additionally, the fact that they spoke only French with the police was frustrating for my friend, as it left them feeling excluded and unheard. It would have been considerate to translate or explain the situation in English for my friend's benefit.
We understand that running a restaurant is stressful, but clear communication and a willingness to clarify situations can go a long way in avoiding these kinds of misunderstandings. The fact that they keep communicating in French with the police they didn't even care to explain in English with my friend which is very ignorant and rude. please go learn some english class before opening a stupid restaurant.
For your responses below, if what you said were true, then why my friend is not arrested and bring into the prison? Because your evidence is not proving? And how do you explain why the person who hit the car is paying for the repair now? A scammer wouldn’t be stupid enough to leave her bag if she wanna dine and dash and come back 15 minutes later? She would just leave it but I guess the only stupid thing she did was to dine in this so called...
Read moreHands down, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. Every dish was a celebration of flavor and creativity — Chef Aurélien truly delivered something special.
I had the Limousin beef filet with fresh truffle — cooked to perfection, tender, flavorful, and beautifully plated with a rich sauce and refined vegetable sides. A true highlight.
The signature egg dish with truffle and popcorn was surprising and fun — creamy, earthy, with that playful crunch that just worked. The risotto was creamy and comforting, with deep flavors and those generous truffle slices adding elegance to every spoonful. Dessert was a masterpiece — vine peach with verbena and vanilla mascarpone, light and aromatic with a perfect sweet balance. Even the little final treat served in a flowerpot made us smile — creative and delicious.
The service was warm and the whole atmosphere felt intimate yet elegant. This isn’t just dinner — it’s an experience. Chef Aurélien, merci. We’ll remember this meal for...
