Huge disappointment! I have booked this restaurant based on it’s long lasting reputation and to be absolutely honest, I have never been more disappointed in my life. Fist of all I can not understand how could this restaurant be granted a Michelin star.. I have been to others and it has always been something more or less extraordinary/special. This was just and only disappointing. None of the 5 courses we had was at least remarkable. Everything was pretty much basic and there was nothing special about it. The last drop was our 4th course which was literally a slice of cheese and champignons with vinegar. This taking one of the five meals was the peak of “we literally do not care” vibe we were getting. The place is old and not maintained enough but at least it got the og atmosphere. That is of course then ruined by people sitting there in dirty shoes with worn out jeans and tshirt with a print (if you pretend to be such a luxury restaurant with high standards you should tell these people when entering that this is not acceptable). Also a small dog was present at the table next to ours, which is not very usual at a ‘fine dining luxurious’ restaurant. The service tried to be on a high level which was sometimes successful but then I also waited for almost 20 minutes for my water to be refilled (only after me waving at the waiter asking if I could get more water). Also I do not drink wine which I mentioned at the beginning, after this I expected to be offered some other option which did not happen, so I stayed with water for the whole evening. For a menu cost of 200€/pp and small bottle of water for 9€ I truly expected the food to be at least good. Terrible and I would not recommend...
Read moreAfter travelling a week in France, we decided to splurge a bit and go to a Michelin restaurant. This restaurant is in a beautiful location and the view from our table was wonderful.
Unfortunately, our actual experience with the dinner was less than stellar Service team got to work with drinks and Took our orders. On the first course, they had made a mistake on my wife’s dinner They tried to convince her to eat what she had not ordered where she refused. As you can imagine, as we ate our appetizer, she sat and watched. If you’ve been involved in restaurant operations, the fact that one appetizer did not arrive at the specified time causes problems down the chain.
The main courses arrived together. Mine was excellent. My daughter and wife ordered the tuna which was overcooked.
The dessert was fine, although not remarkable
My daughter is very good at choosing wine and has an excellent palate. Although she does not drink., She is happy to test to make sure the wine is appropriate. She told the sommelier but he seemed to not understand. He kept coming back and pushed wine at her. Each time she patiently said I don’t drink and I don’t want wine. His skill in pouring wine and water was weak with both wine drops and water splattering on the table.
I am suprised . I tried they have a one star rating. we had many beautiful meals in Normandy and in Paris and this restaurant meal rated almost at the bottom in terms of quality and at the top in...

$500 meal that did not come close to Michelin quality. The flavors in each course either didn’t work well together or was missing a vital component (e.g. lack of acidity to cut through a very savory dish).
Service here was outstanding. Definitely what you would expect of a Michelin restaurant. They were attentive, made sure my champagne and water glass was filled. Pulled my chair out for me and folded my napkin when I walked away to use the restroom. I took some points away from service because of some misleading offerings.
When we arrived, they poured us each a glass of champagne which we thought was complimentary. But when the bill came, we realized it wasn’t. Seems kind of misleading to force a glass of champagne like that. They did the same thing with espresso at the and of the meal. At other Michelin 1-stars, they offered many complimentary snacks/drinks that were part of the large per person price (e.g. Contraste).
We spent $440 at a different 1-star Michelin, Contraste, just the night before and it was fantastic. Flavors were complex but complimentary, wine pairing was a part of this $440 price tag AND paired very well with each dish.
For $205 per person, La Grande Cascade was by far the most disappointing meal in...
