A Tapas Experience That Transcends Borders (and Expectations)
We had the pleasure of sampling a range of tapas that delivered far more than their modest pricing might suggest — this was a meal that flirted with the divine.
We started with Padrones sprinkled with chili flakes, a light, smoky opener with just enough heat to wake up the palate. The Salmon Tataki arrived next, delicate and well-balanced — the kind of clean, precise flavor that says someone in that kitchen cares deeply about their knives.
Then the real show began.
The Crying Tiger, a Thai-style grilled beef, was nothing short of spectacular — seared to perfection, boldly seasoned, with just the right depth of heat and citrus to make your taste buds sit up and salute. A knockout.
The Tuna Tartare on Brioche felt like a masterclass in texture and temperature — buttery, chilled tuna on a warm, lightly toasted brioche base. It was rich without being heavy, indulgent without apology. Easily one of the best tartares I’ve had anywhere.
But then came the Scallops with Spelt Risotto — a dish that shouldn’t just be eaten, it should be studied. Perfectly caramelized on the outside, buttery inside, resting atop a creamy, nutty risotto that let the scallops shine while still pulling its own weight.
And finally, the Bouchot Mussels with Mascarpone and Chorizo — an unexpected but utterly delicious twist on a classic. The mascarpone lent a silky richness, while the chorizo punched through with smoky spice. It was bold, comforting, and brilliantly executed.
Verdict: This wasn’t just a good meal. This was a reminder that when tapas are done right — with respect for ingredients, clever pairings, and a touch of ambition — they’re not just small plates. They’re big experiences.
Highly recommend. And if you skip the crying tiger or the tartare? Don’t say I...
Read moreFantastic seafood restaurant. As the name suggests we were accommodated by an all female waiting staff (I can only presume that the chefs were as well)! Table service and food were excellent, I plumped for the cockles spaghetti and my partner had the tuna steak, both of which were delicious and in good proportion (some other places we have been to have had massive portions at expense of quality). Also there was some form of vegetables with the tuna, which seems to be par for the course in other southern France establishments. Probably the best two elements were the inexpensive pichets of wine which dramatically reduce a food bill if you like your booze and the child friendly nature of the restaurant (we went at 7pm and the terrace was occupied exclusively by happy buzzing...
