La Mirabelle-Casteil /Restaurant Gastronomique — Restaurant in Prades

La Mirabelle is a charming, small country hotel in the quiet village of Casteil, where you can totally switch off from the worries of the world, and relax in the total beauty of an area of France which is an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Casteil lies in a beautiful valley just above Vernet-les-Bains, and the whole area is dominated by Canigou, the 2784m mountain and its foothills. Just above the hotel is the start of the 1600m walking trail with an ascent of about 300m to the magnificent Abbey of Saint Martin du Canigou with its spectacular views.||We were given a warm welcome by Richard, the proprietor, and shown to our room, which was very comfortable and clean. Mention should be made here of the hotel grounds, where there is a swimming pool and quite a large area for outdoor dining in the summer months, with plenty of trees, plants, flowers and shrubs to add to the beauty. ||We had a superb gourmet dinner, which was an absolute delight, in the very tastefully decorated and spacious hotel dining room. Richard served us at table with the cuisine prepared by his wife Olga, which was exquisitely cooked and presented with a perfect combination of flavours, textures, and colours.||After dinner we thoroughly enjoyed talking to Richard and listening to his and Olga’s experiences as restaurateur and chef during their journey through life in the UK and on the French coast, before taking on their new adventure in Casteil a few years ago.||The following morning’s continental breakfast came up to the same standard as dinner the night before, freshly prepared and delicious.||Altogether, it was a very pleasant stay and we feel that we can highly recommend it to anyone who loves excellent food prepared with love and care, while relaxing in beautiful and tranquil surroundings.||Thank you so much, Richard and Olga.
