This review is focused on the new Sunday brunch that Brique House has just started (this week!). I am a native New Yorker, so there are a few things in my Sunday brunch that are non-negotiable: a classic bacon, egg, and cheese (BEC) sandwich and lots of strong hot coffee. If Iâm really hungry, then the lumberjack breakfast (you Americans know what Iâm talking aboutâŠthe diner special, with pancakes, eggs, bacon, home fries, and toast) fits the bill. SoâŠthe verdict? Brique House has taken brunch to the next level!! It has elevated my beloved BEC sandwich, my bacon-and-eggs expectations, and the pancake and waffle offerings, just to name a few. Itâs a buffet-style brunch but with a stomach-stuffing variety of tasty, flavorful, and well-seasoned options, like: their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is a real fresh, fried egg (not the scrambled or pre-mixed egg concoction that we often get in NYC) with crispy, thinly sliced bacon and two slices of cheese that is fresh and flavorful (not a pre-packaged slice of Velveeta or cheddar). All of this goodness is sandwiched between two thin, light, and not-too-sweet pancakes which are almost softly crispy. Their pancakes are light, fluffy, and are served with âgasp!â REAL maple syrup. Not the fake high-fructose-corn-syrup-pretending-to-be-maple-syrup that we get in the US. But you also have the option of many kinds of jams, Nutella, chocolate chips, and butter (REAL butter!). Iâm sure there were more options that I just didnât see. I was so excited by real maple syrup that I ignored everything else. They had an amazing pulled pork sandwich, served in a soft brioche bun with cheese and homemade coleslaw. It was fantastic! A burst of flavor in every bite. The coleslaw had shredded carrots, herbs, citrus, and mayonnaise that together with the not-too-sweet but melt-in-our-mouth pulled pork, made it an amazing bite to eat. One of my favorites of the entire buffet. Their avocado and goat cheese toast was delicious. For you vegetarians out there, it is a tasty, flavorful, hearty, warming open-faced sandwich. I was skeptical at first, thinking it would be just an ordinary avocado sandwich with little flavor. Oh, how wrong I was! The goat cheese was herby and citrusy, which gave it a sit-up-and-take-notice depth of flavor that was delicious. Topped with fresh walnuts, the avocado and goat cheese combination was a real hit. Their scrambled eggs were not your ordinary diner eggs. These scrambled eggs were a hearty, warm combination of cheese, herbs, and something that gave it a savory kick that I loved. It was delicious! Their bacon. Their smoked, crispy, thinly sliced, amazing, tasty, yummy bacon. I should have stuffed my pockets full of that bacon, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly for me. Back in NYC, I struggle with diners, delis, and restaurants which often serve undercooked bacon. Brique Houseâs bacon was the gold standard for smoked bacon crispiness. Waffles! These were the real LiĂ©ge waffles with little sugar pearls baked in. Iâm sure that any of the topping options worked great with the waffles, but Iâm an American purist â I love my (real) maple syrup, so I stuck with my down-home fave. Pancakes! Light, fluffy, normal-sized pancakes (you US diner habituĂ©s know what Iâm talking aboutâŠthose diner-sized pancakes larger than your head) that were absolutely delicious. Coffee. I am highlighting Brique Houseâs carafe-dispensed coffee because it wasnât burnt-bean-tasting-but-no-flavor, acidic coffee that is the staple of bottomless cups of joe in the US. This coffee stayed perfectly hot (a feat in itself!) and was strong and flavorful but low acidity.
Brique House Reims should be very proud of themselves. And to Scarlett, the team, and the kitchen brigade: I would like to convey my gratitude, my thanks, my appreciation, and my pockets (to fill with extra bacon, BEC sandwiches, waffles, and pulled pork sandwiches) for bringing brunch to Reims, which, like at home in NYC, is a family and friends affair, for everyone to enjoy without stress or...
