The restaurant at this hotel in is well situated in a central part of the beautiful town of Belves. The restaurant itself is clean and well presented. By current French standards the food here is good, given that our experience of food served in restaurants France is that it is often of low quality, frequently overpriced and often not fresh (rotting salad is not uncommon in our experience). ||Our mistake here, which may be cultural, was to ask to share meals because we are not used to eating large amounts of food. We ordered wine, soft drinks and one set menu between two adults and set menu between our two kids. It was not made clear to us that this was not appropriate at the time we ordered. It was however made clear by the floor manager's less than subtle sideline muttering, body language and eventual approach to our table - that this was not on. We asked for an explanation as to why and she stormed off refusing to speak to us. Not wanting to upset things we then ordered more food to appease her. We did not stay at this hotel but visited for lunch. The décor is nice and the waitress very friendly and tried to explain, in her very limited English, what the dishes were. Her teenage assistant would rather have been elsewhere and did not smile once the entire time we were there. We both ordered steaks, one well done and one medium and a plate of vegetables between us.|| The steaks arrived fairly quickly but neither was as expected, both were very rare. I will admit that this could have been a communication issue so we said nothing and proceeded to eat them. They were served on cold plates and as they had not been cooked through they went cold very quickly. After a while we asked about the vegetables. They arrived just as we finished our steaks followed shortly after by the bread rolls. For the price I expect better service and a decent meal.
