One of the nicest food experiences I've had this trip in France. We were hungry and passing through Baugé and stumbled upon Le Commerce. They were packed with locals (always a good sign) and even though we showed up towards the end of their business hours, they squeezed us in. The menu is very simple. They feature one dish each day (pork roast for us) but also seem to give a couple other options and offer a selection of sides - I picked roasted potatoes and salad. Once they had our order, they sent us to the buffet for some "appetizers." I can't remember everything but there were marinated mushrooms, a cabbage salad, quinoa salad, tomatoes and cheese with dressing, charcuterie meat, watermelon and more. They also brought bread to the table and a carafe of red wine was included in the menu. The pork and the potatoes were some of the best I've ever tasted. The salad was simple, just lettuce leaves (I wondered if there were vinaigrettes or dressings available but I was happy to eat them plain). After all that, they offered us dessert! We both got the creme brulée and it also was worthy of a Michelin rated restaurant. The incredible thing to us was that we each got our meal for just €16.50! I think I would have paid almost twice that for that quality back home. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. When we went to pay our bill, a young man, Baptiste, came out to help with the credit card transaction and it turned out that he was the chef. He was the nicest fellow and seems to have found the perfect fit for him. He is obviously making a lot of people very happy and I wish him well. I don't rate many of these reviews and never this long but this was deserving of my attention.

Wonderful food. I go for the formule, which is a buffet style starter followed by a main dish, fish, chicken, pork, they're all very good, with a choice of wonderful desserts; a drink of cider or wine is included in the price which is very reasonable. The staff are really helpful and friendly and there is plenty of space for inside or outside dining. I went back there time and time again.

A Hidden Gem in Bouge – A Must-Visit for Food, Drink, and Hospitality

As musicians visiting Bouge with the opera, we’ve had the pleasure of dining and unwinding here nearly every night of our stay and what a treat it’s been. From the moment we stepped in, we were met with warm, genuine hospitality that quickly made this place feel like a home away from home.

The food is consistently outstanding — beautifully prepared, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. Whether you’re after a proper meal or just some small plates to share, everything we’ve tried has been top-notch. The drinks are equally impressive, with a thoughtful selection that caters to every taste — from local wines to creative cocktails.

What truly sets this place apart, though, is the staff. Jeanne and Baptiste have gone above and beyond to make us feel welcome night after night. Their kindness, energy, and attention to detail turned every visit into something special. They looked after us in the way only the best kind of hosts can — with heart.

This bar/restaurant is more than just a spot for a great meal or drink — it’s a place where you feel part of something. We’re so grateful to have found it during our time in Bouge. Highly, highly...
