L’hippocampe — Restaurant in Toulon

We really enjoy this bar/café/restaurant. Love sitting in the sun in the morning facing the sea with our coffee. But what’s even better is the food from the restaurant. The mussels are wonderful with huge portions and the tuna tartare is excellent!! The waitress - Amandine - is pretty amazing, navigating tight spaces always with a smile or something nice to say. She works alone (other than high season) and is there all day!! Another reason we like going .. you feel like family! My only wish is that there was some soft music in the restaurant at night to drown out other conversations. We always go back though because the food is really that good! As a side note … the owner makes an incredible Irish coffee!! I need to go back to add food photos. Completely forgot to take pics! En vacances nous décidons de manger dans un petit restaurant qui semble sympa. Une expérience qui ne se renouvellera jamais!

Une serveuse nous installe , une autre apporte les cartes et une 3 eme prend la commande de boisson. Une dizaine de minute après on reçoit nos boissons.

On commande le plat environ 20 minutes après la réception des boissons.

On patiente plus d’une heure pour avoir le plat. Enfin!

Que de tristesse face à nos plats. Un filet de saint Pierre cru. Il n’était pas possible de le couper donc repars en cuisine. Un autre arrive… même problème retour une 2eme fois en cuisine avant d’obtenir enfin un morceau de poisson à peine cuit.

On avait également commandé un burger bien cuit. La cuisson était saignante.. le bien cuit s’est perdu en cours de route?

La synchronisation des plats est absente , il a mangé puis moi… c’est dommage on est dans un restaurant pour passer un agréable moment et ensemble.

De plus les serveurs s’occupent de toutes les tables et aucune donc on nous demande 3 fois dans le repas si tout se passe bien, c’est sympa mais les clients aiment bien manger dans le calme…et pas être dérangés toutes les 2 minutes pour savoir si tout va bien.

Les plats avalés il faut vite repartir car on a passé plus de 2h sur place et que le stationnement arrive à échéance.

C’est malheureusement un restaurant qui a un beau potentiel ( a proximité du port, avec une grande terrasse comportant de nombreuses places assises, assez de serveurs pour l’ensemble des tables mais une mauvaise organisation donc un stress important et une mauvaise gestion des commandes ( on a entendu qu’il y a eu une inversion des commandes par rapport aux numéros de table, erreur dans les plats et dans les desserts).

Restaurant à éviter si vous souhaitez passer un agréable moment et avec un bon rapport qualité prix.

(Plus de 50€ pour 1 Monaco, 1 sprite, 1 burger, 1 plat de poisson ça fait très cher surtout vu la qualité. ( est ce que c’était du poisson congelé ? Certainement)

Allez dans un bon fast food comme ça vous savez à quoi vous attendre et ce sera...

Avoid! The service lets the chef down. Food was actually nice, however the service was chaotic to say the least. We went after the main rush for dinner, and stood waiting to be seated for over 30mins despite asking several times and there being at least 3 visible empty (but dirty) tables. One staff member was fantastic but was manning a sinking ship. The other members of staff appeared to be doing nothing, and this poor girl was crying more than once. Every single thing was an issue- food served with no drinks or cutlery, had to ask several times for eg water or a spoon. All the surrounding tables had similar issues.
